Might as well give up this week...

WTF... is the whole country on holiday this week?
Everything I have tried to do has been scuppered by people being off / companies having staff off.
Main supplier at work away. Their own staff also off.
Our timber supplier stopped producing till Tuesday, no staff. No warning or notice.
Estate agent we are dealing with for a house purchase off, then their staff cant get hold of the vendors... they think they have gone away..
Another supplier at work off, delivery has slipped by a day as the guy left to do it forgot.
I know its a first world problem but come on this is just daft. It seems to get worse each year - we lose 2 weeks in May basically.

This is the first "popular" bank holiday week that I've not taken as holiday since I started working. The commute is very pleasant, I don't encounter any traffic and the works car park is empty so I get the prime time spaces - but it's offset by a bit of an increase in workload as I'm having to cover folks in my team who are on holiday. All in all it's quite refreshing; I have noticed a particularly large influx of the half-term crowd on PH this week though.
We've been dead at work; both this week and last, I work in an extremely affluent area of Surrey, lots of private schools so a two week half term, a bank holiday and rich parents, those combined mean the locals are away on their holidays in their second homes.
All of the above doesn't seem to register with management who are wandering around wondering what has happened, we tell them and all they can say is, "well the other branch has sold xyz more than us" yes, that is the difference between our area and their area; still struggle to grasp it though!!
Its bloody boring.

Just be thankful that you aren't having to try and get, for instance, motorcycle parts from Italy. They appear to go on holiday en masse in about June and don't come back til September. Literally NOTHING is possible. It beggars belief how they get anything at all done or how their economy even functions. Eh, oh....

One good thing about holidays is the absence of the school run traffic, it makes driving at that time of day almost pleasurable.
Couldn't agree more, 20 mins to work, rather than the usual 40-45.I am also struggling with this.
Recently started a new role as an area sales person and it requires me to work from home, make my own appointments etc.
It means being disciplined and not getting distracted at home (have a 2 year-old and my partner is due to give birth in 4 weeks! - lots of distractions). I feel guilty for taking home what (I feel) is a very good wage but actually doing very little.
Speaking to as many contractors and developers this whole month (bank holidays) has been a nightmare - people are just not there or don't want to commit to an appointment at this time of year.
So here I am on PH. As I was yesterday...and the day before...
