I was 19, I went to see Metallica at the nec.
I was deaf for 2 days.
I used to like very loud music.
I dont know whether to blame my tinnitus on the loud music as a kid, the working on a fecking loud MRI scanner or on the fact that my TVR is really loud.
Mine is stupid car stereos and spending 12 hours a week or so in a practice room/recording studio with no ear protection.I was deaf for 2 days.

Forgot my earplugs again last night. Idiot.
On the plus side, you're never alone with tinnitus.
If I've tuned it out temporarily, with music or something, when I think about it again it goes up an octave.
I used to think deafness was complete silence. I now think for some deafness is high pitch screaming that blots out every other sound.
Aah noise. Working around jet engines when I was a yoof, thinking I was bulletproof and never wearing hearing protection. Then one day Concorde took off on one of her last flights from Stansted and I was about 100m away. The noise was indescribable. Instant deafness, the most "pure" noise I've ever heard. Amazing. And quite, quite painful. Second to that was a Carter USM gig at the Brixton Academy.
Which reminds me of the answer to the old question, "If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Well, yes it makes a sound, but it doesn't make noise. Noise is the unwanted sound, the nuisance. If nobody can hear it, it can't be unwanted.

After years of working in recording studios, going to gigs and listening to music too loudly in the car and at home, I finally got tinnitus in (about) 1995. Since then I've had a permanent whistle in my right ear. It started off at about 17kHz but is now about 8.5-9kHz.
A few weeks ago I woke up one Sunday morning and felt odd. I new something was wrong but couldn't quite work it out. About 2 hours later it dawned on me...No whistling!!
Unfortunately, it only lasted about 4 hours!

No, actually, slightly worse that.If I hold off until tomorrow, my 20,00th post on PH will fall exactly on the FYAEM* Anniversary of TT. What could be more fitting? See you in the Toby near Cardiff Airport tomorrow evening? There will be fine dining and an excellent cellar back at the Towers while we endure a mass produced roast dinner and popular brands of beer or anti-freeze masquerading as wine in the Toby.

It's an interesting problem alright.
For those that are interested, here's the explanation. Being an extremity, you lose a lot of heat through you feet. You also lose a fair bit through the backs if the knees and the skin that covers your lower legs. I have none of these things, which means my body can't get rid of as much heat as it used to be able to.
This wouldn't be so bad if my head had got used to this fact and acted accordingly, but it hasn't. I still try and get rid of heat at the same rate I did before, only now that's not enough. As a result, hot weather is horrible and it's very hard to cool down when I do overheat, which is all the time.
have been thinking about this, some sort of external heatsink would work but would be impractical. For those that are interested, here's the explanation. Doogz- I didn't go last night. I went in 2009 and couldn't imagine them topping that.
Chunks, they didn't. It was still good, but a little disappointing tbh.Came out feeling a little melancholy, there are so many bands I wish I could have seen that I never will. And so many bands that people today might not appreciate, understand, or be old enough to go and see, that they'll think in a few years "I wish I'd seen them"
Queen, Zeppelin, Floyd...
You can watch dvd's, listen to live albums, but it's not the same.
I doubt ACDC will be back here again, and even if they are, they'll not be as good. It's a bit sad.
Seen Primus last week. Their live performance is incredible, yet so many people have never even heard of them, never mind seen them. These guys won't be around forever, and people will miss the chance they have.
I saw Led Zepellin but didn't see The Beatles. I've seen The Who but not The Stones. I saw Velvet Underground but didn't see The Frank Zappa.
Big Festivals help you tick a load off at once. Lincoln in 1972 had The Faces and Humble Pie. And Joe Cocker. And The Beach Boys (?) And Slade (??) And Monty Python (???)
