Tell us something really trivial about your life (Vol 26)
Discussion
My dad wore arm bans in the fifties as not only were they fashionable but also it saved him having his shirts altered to make the sleeves shorter. He was a designer in the days of drawing boards and wearing sleeve bands saved chaps from dragging their cuffs across their drawings, to the detriment of both drawing and cuff. I suspect they were fashionable because there were so many drawing boards in use and chaps looked smart. Wearing arm bands was eminently preferable to rolling up your sleeves. He would have despaired of most of the drawing offices I've worked in where most of the inhabitants looked as if they had dropped in to get warm.
