Is this the unofficial, official picture thread now?

Good. I submit proof that the manager at the local bar has a sense of humour which is wasted on those who are wasted:

Well, as an introduction to the world of driving for a living, that didn't go at all well.

"Start early, finish early is the key," we were told at the induction. Over the weekend I received a text saying I would be picked up at ten and driven to Southampton to pick up a car for Leighton Buzzard. Ten? That's nearly lunchtime. Phone call at ten thirty saying Jackie would lift me at eleven thirty. She arrived at ten to twelve in an AMG 63. Nice. "I'll drive if you like." "Ha, ha." She dropped me at Southampton Docks at one-ish, where I waited twenty minutes for the car, checked it over, did the paperwork and left at two. Drove to Mercedes, picked up Jackie who had dropped off the AMG, rang the office to say we were leaving and drove to Leighton Buzzard. Arrived at three seconds past five. Too late! Office closed. Arranged with security to abandon car there. The office found another driver who was just leaving Leighton Buzzard to come and get me. Nice guy, Octavia VRS en route to Gloucester. AMG? VRS? What did you drive, Dicky? A shagged Clio non-turbo diesel. Dire it was. Not one redeeming feature. It slowed down going up hill. Because I was a passenger for two rides and drove one, today I earned £37.33. Seven hours.

If it doesn't improve, professional driving and I will not be a long term feature.

I'm reminded of 5 days that I spent learning that I was not cut out to be a courier driver; my steadfast refusal to travel everywhere with the engine bouncing off the limiter(leggy Renault Extra van) resulted in them inviting me to seek alternative employment. I did not demur. I earned approximately £1.40 per hour after costs.

I did sameday courier work for almost exactly a year.

Put 21,000 miles onto a hopeless Escort van and sold it broken and went out and bought a brand new Caddy and put

48,000 miles on that in 8 months.

Clutch failed in that time,i got a Vectra estate for the day and put 800 miles on it...might have been a Cavalier.

I had 2 transmisssion issues with the Ford too.

Clutch arm broke in City of London and a driveshaft came loose, losing drive on a weekend off at Donington.

I kept AA relay busy with that as they brought me home both times.

I had such plans. A blog in GG entitled Ricardo's Random Rides. Such wizard japes we were to share.

Had I been on my own I would have stopped and taken a photo of a sculpture in the middle of a roundabout by Southampton Airport depicting the prototype Spitfire K5054. It is where Supermarine were based and where K5054 first flew in March 1936 when the airport was Eastleigh Aerodrome.

Is the cock of Dorking particularly notable?

It's BIG and placed on the main roundabout access into the town.

Not actually sure why it's there.

I decided to be reckless and buy a new bucket today. Knowing that B&Q always seem to have a stash of them right by the entrance meant it was a thought free process to drop by the store on the way back here and hang the potential expense.

They're a quid each. A quid. One of your Earth pounds. One hundred pence.

So I bought two.

I bought a splendid stainless steel bucket for a tenner in Bill's Tool Store several years ago; I wish I'd bought 2 as it's pretty much indestructible and I've never seen anything similar for sale at less than £25 since.

This morning is all thick, grey cloud. Yesterday was joyous blue skies.

Hey ho.

Just read Judy Carne's obituary. If that's the sort of life I can expect from a wee bit of celebrity I shall this day abandon my attempt to become a household name.

Obscurity beckons.
