Did you dare venture into the F1 thread ?
The arguing over Lewis and Nico got too much way back so I left them to it months ago.
There's an F1 thread? I wouldn't have gone there even if I'd known it existed. The arguing over Lewis and Nico got too much way back so I left them to it months ago.
My Formula 1 knowledge allows me hold my own against Mrs C if she's reading and not watching TV.
I certainly wouldn't wish to tangle with accurate-to-the-last-gram aficionados.

ION, I was turned away from the doorstep of a house party last night being hosted by some old coursemates - "because we think your political views are unacceptable and we don't want it to cause an argument with other people inside". There really are some pathetic people in the world...
There are only two acceptable viewpoints for student spongers to hold; shouty agitprop slightly to the left of Mao and keeping your mouth shut. Being even vaguely informed about reality, questioning dogma and wanting political solutions that actually work means you leave a smell behind you worse than a dead dog. Which camp do you fall into? Those that don't know when to keep politics out of the conversation wouldn't be welcome at any house party of mine either, and by the sounds of it these old course mates of CC's have come to the conclusion he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.
The clue is in the name, house parties are supposed to be parties and therefore fun, not places to have political arguments.

Radial engine ..... useless without pics!
It's a Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp, last run in the 70s on a DC3 before sitting in various workshop corners for 40 years. We're hoping to have it running at shows next year in a genuine engine mount, complete with a full size prop on it (the owner doesn't like doing things by halves!)Here it is assembled for static display last year:
Rotary engines for the complication.
.................
Meanwhile, back with radial engines, my uncle worked on Dakotas at the end of the war amongst other things - the C-47 military version as opposed to the DC3, is that right? He spoke in hushed tones about the agro of removing one of the spark plugs in situ. Hours of frustration. The bottom one? Top one? Can't remember.

All of them I suspect.hidetheelephants said:

All of them I suspect. When the engine is in situ, with a firewall on one side and exhaust collector pipes running through the handy gaps between each cylinder, I think there would definitely be a lot of swearing involved....
