This might be a good idea for me, i cant stop knee-shaking usually, and have several desk-toys to play around with.

Not backing a KS though, if they actually sell the product i might get one

Hahaha

I dont really doubt something will come of it, but i on principle dont back kick-starters, Its basically venture capitalism with no return on your investment... i dont see the upside for me.

Apart from getting the product at a discount from retail?

I can't see many risks with that one apart from having to deliver way more than expected but that's a scale issue. With $4m+ they can hire some mass production consultants.
Some projects you do take a chance on them delivering. I'm picky, not had a failure yet.

How much of a discount is it likely to be though? I looked at it and it's seemingly $38 including shipping.

The benefit for the "seller" is that they can get the money up-front to pay for production, and they can set the campaign size relative to the minimum order quantity. It's a risk mitigation strategy for start-ups, which also utilizes social media as a marketing device.

The benefit for the "buyer" is getting the new innovative products earlier, and at a better price than RRP. (Indiegogo also has a kick-back scheme so if you spread the word on social media, you might get a reward for the number of people you influence.)

Personally, I'm a buyer, who is also gearing up to be a seller. I like it from both sides. Although there is always the risk of buying snake oil, the buyer needs to be aware, and sensible.

I successfully cracked a padlock last night with my new lock picks.

And after a little practice i could do it with my eyes closed about 50% of the time.

I think there is a little more mileage in these than some other hobbies. :thumbup@

Bought a Stihl strimmer off ebay as spares/repair. No need for one... but might be useful... Easy to start with new spark plug although feels a little out of tune. However no drive to the cutter head which means either new clutch or new driveshaft, currently 'cheap' strimmer not looking so cheap.
