Replace RetroPie with standard Raspbian, setup some home automation with Node Red. It's rather good (and easy, as I'm discovering)

What can it do that I need?

Heating is automated with Tado. Amazons Alexa takes care of some other stuff. My Logitech Harmony turns everything on for the Tv/consoles/av etc and I don't really buy into the Hue lighting as I can't see any benefit.

What does node red bring to the party?

Ties them all together in a seamless manner.
I.E it can allow alexia to control everything without you having to interface with the other automation systems directly.

Exactly, this is the frivolous thread after all, so why not have an extra system to play with, to learn something new and add a frivolous web interface to control your house!

Ouch! I only ask becasue I've been away from biking from years now, but I always used Akra stuff on my race bikes - in my opinion, it is about the best money can buy. But wow - that money used to buy us a full titanium system 10 or 15 years ago!

Lovely bit of kit though, I think that you have invested wisely to be honest.
You are not allowed use words like 'invested wisely' on this thread thank you very much smile

Is that just a bog standard LED light or is it connected to the TV?

I'm tempted by one of these, I see loads that plug in to a USB and stick behind the TV.

Is there any point at all or is it just bling?

It is an LED light strip
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M28RKH5/ref...

On checkout you get a 39% discount so cost just under £8.

It plugs in to the TV USB socket and comes on with the TV and goes off with the TV and I leave it on static (not flashing) purple/blue.

After just a few minutes of watching TV with the LED on, if you turn the LED off, it really makes the wall behind noticeably bland. It therefore started as a bit on the bling side but actually has improved the viewing.

I do take notes for work but honestly I use boggo bic mechanical pencils & pens mostly. I have a few rules with my Mont Blanc which has kept it safe so far like I won't use it when I work on-site or in-transit, only use at home or work desk.

Do you just have 1 strip fitted? A guy in my office thinks 1 strip wont be bright enough????? Can you notice it with the lights on?

Yep, just one strip.

With the light on it gives a subtle light, I can't explain it but it's just nice.

LED on and lights on,

LED off

Proof of one strip

MeV Exocet kit and matching MX5 1.8VVT donor car, to use as a wedding car for myself and best man, only minor previous experience of working on cars, do I qualify? spin
Excellent stuff - I have my donor ready to go (and have in fact sold some bits off it today), but am just working on getting my mini back on the road before I rip into it! Get a thread up in readers rides to document your build - will be good to compare notes!

A pair of recon jet "smart" glasses for cycling - they look utterly ridiculous - but then I guess most people on bikes do anyway.

They used to be about £500 - these were under £100

I applied to be a "test pilot" for these, which seem to do a similar thing, without looking quite so "special".

Not sure whether I really want a HUD anyway, so probably wouldn't shell out my own cash. Call me "skeptical until I've tried it."

Ordered, worth a go! I have a gaming set up in the spare room with a relatively large (49 inch) TV and having the lights off strains the eyes a bit and the sidelight in the room sits opposite the TV so reflects on to it. Worth a go!

If it's naff, ghetto cheap neons for the car coolhehe
