I guess I see "frivolous" as being equal to "fun", and I don't find pens fun. LED's, toy cannons, things that light up, make noise, or stink are what floats my boat.
That was sort of the idea when I started the original. Fun stuff that you could get by in life without but it is enjoyable to have.

Seems like it was a good enough idea as it keeps going biggrin

Well, quite. And I don't recall there being a stipulation that you had to seek consensus approval on your purchases. wink

Nope. I was sort of hoping this thread would be a small area of PH that was devoid of judgement but you can't have it all biggrin

Huh? Pretentious? Because people are getting enjoyment out of buying £3 Chinese fountain pens and being pleasantly surprised about how good they are? Because people are rediscovering writing? You want to go look at the watch threads where people spend £1000's on a watch whose purpose is to show how rich they are. That's pretentious.
The Pistonheads watch forum can be a bit like that at times, but it has the £50 watch thread and I have received positive comments about the odd cheap vintage Timex or old Russian watch that have posted in amongst all the Rolex, Patek's and Breitling's. It's very rare that someone will criticise someone's choice of watch unless it's a copycat design.

I have found that forums on dedicated watch websites usually have a much wider price range of watches being discussed because the participants are all there for the love of watches, whereas PH is more of a general forum with a car bias.

I've bought the entire DVD collections of Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet, in a bid to relive my youth, and future planning for when I have children of my own to watch them with.

All this, despite the fact my DVD player hasn't worked properly for a couple of years.

Ok, it's not a purchase or in any way frivolous, but it's something I know (most of) you lot will appreciate it.

Many years ago when the corks crew ride at AT Theme Park was taken down (trying to be a bit vague as I don't want this appearing in searches) my lovely Father In Law happened across the site on works business. He was given this item, one of it's wheels, by a worker. He brought it home and I loved it. Everyone else was distinctly unimpressed. FIL joked that as I was the only one to appreciate it I could have it when he died. Sadly he did pass away a few years ago and it's taken until now to actually find it in his garage. Other half grudgingly handed it to me over the weekend (still unimpressed) and it's currently residing on the bookshelf.
Needs a proper display to do it justice so any ideas appreciated.

I love the wear to it where it's looped so many times. Always came off that ride bleeding, it had a tendency to whack the posts of stud earrings into the flesh. I never did learn to remove them before riding.
You can actually see the wheel on this pic, its the underside wheels of which I believe there were 2 per car. I know a few folk in these parts have AT bits and pieces, one local garden has a beautiful flower display in one of the swan rides from the lake!

I believe the correct of display would be to build your own rollercoaster around the house, looping at the foot of the stairs

Went to the electronics shop to buy a headphone to phono lead. Ended up with an xbox1s, forza horizon 3 and sniper elite 4.

My Dad has a certificate for being one of the first people to ride that ride.

I'm having that when he dies too.
