Not a suicide bomber or ISIS flag in sight.
Life seemed much simpler back then.
The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in 1928 and attacked British interests.Life seemed much simpler back then.
There was also other domestic terrorism.
Nothing's new - only worse!
I'd say that we are much better off - can't see the likes of WW1 or WW2 happening again.

WWI ended in 1918!
Of course the world is more unstable and violent and terrorism worse today than it was in 1928.
1928 is bang in between the end of the 1st and the start of the 2nd World Wars.Of course the world is more unstable and violent and terrorism worse today than it was in 1928.
WW1 claimed in the region of 16m lives and WW2 claimed in the region of 75m lives (combatants and civilians).
You think that we live during a time when violence and death is worse than this?
I think we just happen to live in a time when we get to hear what is happening all over the world.

And in terms of misery, suffering and death, we shouldn't forget the extra poverty, hunger and illness at the time. Common illnesses that almost everyone survives today were devastating, especially without a state-funded healthcare service.WW1 claimed in the region of 16m lives and WW2 claimed in the region of 75m lives (combatants and civilians).

Diabetes? No chance, mate.
What I find so fascinating about these pictures and those like them is the transition between what feels very much like 'history' and now. Even just looking at things like the artwork on buses where it is all completed by hand, there is a real sense of a more physical and harder life. Contrast that time to even the 50's and the evolution into our 'modern world' seem even more stark.

And then look at what the British did post 1920.. bit of biased list, but as a general point:WW1 claimed in the region of 16m lives and WW2 claimed in the region of 75m lives (combatants and civilians).

I had a book that was just shots of the streets around here in SW London, taken around the 1920s/1930s. Basically the photographer stood at the end of a street, in the middle of the road and took his pic.
Mine was in it and the houses, Victorian, looked the same but the streets were so much wider. No parked cars, non at all just the odd horse drawn carriage.
