Here is the problem. Aged 52, height 186 cm, weight 67 kg. Got married for the first time, 3 years later aged 55, weight 87 kg. Now, Mrs. DG3 does not cook, I do, so I eat the same, drink less, exercise the same. Why the increase, have I lost my hunter gatherer instincts (looking for skirt) or is it metabolism, or just a side effect of being content. Over to you!

Start logging your food and fluid intake.

Myfitnesspal is ace for this. Log *everthing* and you'll find out in fairly short order where you're going wrong.

You're almost certainly not "eating the same" as you were before.

I think at your height, your current weight sounds better than your former weight. You've probably turned into a man biggrin

yes I am, I cook the food.

You've probably turned into a man!
Fairly sure I was a man at 52, nothing changed in that department, still stand, not sit!

What height are you now?
Maybe 185 CM, but the bulk of it went south.

Just interested if people in a similar age group, or similar circumstances, have experienced the same.

Sign of being contented but what tends to happen is lots of extra tea breaks with biscuits, films with nibbles, several course meals instead of just a main, cook double the amount and then take a slightly larger share as she doesn't want as much etc.

I'm 53 in a couple of weeks, 186cm, slim build and 85kgs, though carrying a bit of podge.

Two years ago I got very lean, c. 10% BF and still weighed 76kgs.
67kgs is pretty darn lightweight for your height.

What you cook isn't necessarily the same thing as what you eat.

Unless you're telling us that *every* item of food that passes your lips has been cooked by you.

You're almost certainly eating more somewhere.

Agree with those saying you are eating more. Could also be ever-so-slightly increasing portion sizes (do you use measuring scales when cooking or just guestimate?). And moving a little bit less or not as vigorously as you used to.

Calories in v calories out, simple equation. More in than out, you get fat.

Aside of any medical issues, people who put weight on usually underestimate their calorie intake and convince themselves thy don't eat enough to get heavier. The reality as you have found out is different, the scales and waist size don't lie.

Maybe your wife is slipping you calories to make you fatter to stop other women fancying you wink

20kg? You're definitely eating more.

At 52, it could be low(er) test that's made some changes, i.e water retention, but surely not the tune of 20kgs.

According to this BMI calc (US).

Your former weight at 67kg would class you as underweight.
Your current weight puts you just over the normal range into overweight.

Get back to 84kg and you are back to normal range.

Probably eating fewer calories overall. Carbs are not to be feared.

Natural loss of muscle mass = less calories needed for the average man...

Huffy's right - Calories are pretty much equal, so it doesn't matter where these calories come from (in general terms!)

I rather suspect if you met him today he weighs a little more.

You only think you're taking the same amount of exercise.
Sex burns the same amount of calories as running a marathon, or something.
You got married...
