Not sure if the people who say they'd be embarrassed to go there are serious or being humourous.

There are some great buys in pound stores.

I'm not saying you'd go there to buy something for a special occasion but an iPhone charger for a pound!
I wouldn't buy an electrical item that couldn't be left on its own for longer than 30 seconds.

I've never been in a pound shop, but if I did I would buy soap. I don't think you could go far wrong with some soap for a quid.

Small plastic backed picnic blanket, prefect for sitting on damp grass at festivals. Also 10l water carrier, again for festivals and disposed of after.

A small screwdriver/socket/allen key set when I was at uni, still have it and use it occasionally for little DIY jobs. I don't know if inflation should be taken into account for that though as I've had it about 18 years, so you might need a £2 shop for it now.

Just like overly cheap stuff on eBay, I won't buy anything that plugs into the mains from a pound shop.

I would honestly rather die alone in a pit of misery and despair that even walk into one. I thought they were actually there just for the homeless.

Well done for propping up the Chinese economy though with your purchasing of fake and seconds/crap quality products. Just be careful with the electrical stuff though yeah? You know that CE sign isn't what you might think it is?

I'd rather buy something once and it last more than a week or buy the real item than have to resort to a 'market' type item from a pound store.
Why do people need to write such drivel to drive their point home?

Since you've never been in one of the shops, I think you'll be surprised at what they do sell.

If you read some of the earlier comments, many products are from recognised brand names.

If the thought of going into a pound shop is as bad as you suggest, I've no idea how you get through a day in real life.

It must have been the need for an iPhone charger that gave him the homeless conclusion.

Pound shops are sometimes a bit like Woolworths used to be many years ago "where can I to buy a ..." except cheaper. I really don't get the snobbery. I wouldn't buy anything electrical as I'd be worried about safety and I wouldn't buy anything expecting it to last years but sometimes you really don't need to pay more than a quid for something.

You're assuming people on here buying stuff in poundland are poor? Where DO you get your sense of humour from?

I don't get this... It's a shop! It sells stuff!
Often said stuff is identical to what you can buy in the supermarket only instead of costing £1.99 it costs £1. A lot of the goods are branded rather than market type items.
Really don't understand the snobbery, money is money and stuff is stuff smile who cares where you buy it from if you end up with the same item in the end?

They do the roast beef and mustard ones too, 5 packs for a quid.

Possibly my favorite ever crisp and I haven't seen them in normal shops for ages.

Punching in my postcode to find my nearest store right now!

Anyway, I know a gazillionbilliontrillionaire who shops in a 1p shop, never mind a £1 shop. He also rides his penny farthing to get to it.

Branded stuff is often made in special smaller sizes especially for Poundland, to remain economically viable - After Eights for example.

Bought a load of UK-EU plug adaptors there a year ago - they were selling packs of 2 for £1.

It said on the packet that they were tested for safety, but not recommended for permanent use. I ended up using them for a year non-stop when I lived in France and they worked perfectly. I did always make sure they were unplugged before leaving the house though.

Pound shops can be great for the odd bits and bobs. Would never buy anything I didn't see as disposable in there though as nothing lasts very long.

Very handy for work related stuff such as envelopes, selotape, staples etc. Can't beat 6 rolls of selotape for £1 in the one near here. A fair bit better value than WH Smiths selling 1 roll for about £2.99...

I also buy bottles of water to drink whilst at work from our local one. £1 for 2x 1l bottles of water. Wouldn't get a single 1l bottle of water for £1 in any other shop...

Did see a great deal in a poundworld recently. Big bottle of Daz fabric conditioner with the offer being that you could buy the bottle of Daz for £3 if you spent more than £30 on other items... For a start, how the fk do you spend more than £30 in Poundland? But more importantly, £3 if you spend more than £30 on other items doesn't seem all that great when the bottle itself has £2.99RRP in massive writing across the label biggrin ...

Not sure what's worse, the fact they are trying to pull that off as an offer or that the lady in front of me in the queue gasped in amazement at the offer and told the cashier it was fantastic rolleyes

At work last year we decided to do Secret Santa with a twist.

The limit was £2 and you had to buy 2 presents. The best thing you could find in the Poundshop and the worst

I recieved

Best - A USB Hoover for my keyboard, it actually works, has a light and a turbo button, utter genius

Worst - Aftershave called Huntsman - Success. Its pretty rank to be fair and I'm not sure I would want it on my skin

I know the Poundland aftershaves are far from the last word in gentlemen so fragrance BUT

I have actually bought some and of a morning I'll spray one on, I often get quite favourable comments!!

It also makes me look at the very extensive collection of Gucci, Davidoff, and Tom Ford I have and realise how brilliant those firms are at marketing and PR because, yes, they're stuff is better but £60 plus a bottle.

We are being mugged off for sure.
