I once had the Indian chap who works for Microsoft and knew I had some virus/errors on my laptop apparently. I explained I worked with computers and he was not from Microsoft and he should be ashamed to take money from people by lying. I asked him " what would your Mother think if she knew?" and I told him I think he should get a proper job. He said "And I think you should get a better looking wife..."

I have to admit I burst out laughing at his fast reply, maybe practiced but I still laughed. He hung up.

I've transferred calls that came through to my work line to a local McDonalds in the past. Will start trying to keep them on the line after reading some of the replies in this thread.

Had one earlier, told me his name was Henry....said he wasn't selling, I asked if he just called for a chat. Then I started to say quietly "they've got me, they've got me, I'm in the back of a van, I don't know where I am, Henry, Henry. Then hung up on him. He called straight back but I didn't answer hehe

Just a note of caution, I had an automated cold caller about a year ago, and I couldnt break the call, even when i put the phone down and picked it up again - they were still there.

On my next phone bill there was a £20 item for a call that Virgin said I had made - not one I had received. They said their tech was never wrong. Now had call blocking installed and not an issue.

keeping the caller on the line might just be costing you money.

Just now.
"Hello is that Mr. Williams?" - strong Indian accent
(Always a dead giveaway as that was the wife's maiden name)
"Yes hello"
"Are you still getting your gas from British Gas"
"No, I've never got my gas from British gas"
"Do you use npower, eon etc?"
"None of your business"

It was at this point I realised my daughter was nearby playing with a kazoo I recently purchased so I borrowed this to play an impromptu tune at full volume to the caller.

To my surprise the caller was still on the line. Me " Oh,are you still there?"
Caller "Sir I need to say a few words. fk you"

A while back i had a marketing call on my land line at home

Before starting the survey they wanted me to double-check that the contact information that they held was correct.

I managed to convince them that their details were wrong and the land line number had actually changed. I supplied them with the number for a local take-away. They updated their records.

After that i made my excuses and ended the call.

Not a cold caller call as such but I had one of those "Microsoft" scam calls the other day, I managed to keep them on the phone for 30 minutes citing the computer was still loading windows..

after 30 mins I was passed onto a "supervisor" who wanted to know my name, address and where I work,

once I refused to give out this information, he started swearing at me and told me he was going to fk my face before cutting me off. whistle

I usually just say 'No I'm not interested thanks' and hang up

They are just doing a job and a mind numbingly st job at that, I don't see the need in being rude to them or anything

That's fair enough for sales calls but some of these callers are trying to con people out of their hard earned cash.
