Tattoos... Theres a subject in my house.

When I had my first one at 12 years ago it was the fashionable (at the time) tribal crap at the top of my back... hate it now, want it removed. The only good thing I dont have to look at it!

I have several and the thing ive always found is that those that dont understand it never will, I will at some point in the future have my childrens names tattoo'd onto me. I had a large koi carp half sleeve on my right arm. My dad pretty much disowned me for 2 weeks when he saw it but after a few arguments and me explaining that doesn't change who I am he learnt to understand that its much more than just a picture, its artwork I carry around with me.

Its a very addictive thing as well. Im always wanting to get the next started before ive finished the last one.

Probably the wrong place to ask for tattoo advice really...

Why a Koi Jay? Is it your favourite animal or something?

Do you not think all those things are maybe being done already? Just possibly?

Or maybe I'm just way off. What with every tattooed parent being such a council scumbag rolleyes
I think you're missing the point a little bit. It's not about tattoos in general, it's about tattooing your kids names on your forearms for fashion. Any other reason (such as 'to show them I love them' as alluded to in the post you quoted) is balls frankly.
I don't think I am though.

Who says it's 'for fashion'? What has fashion got to do with it?

Because 15 years ago it was quite unusual to see kids names on forearms and now it's almost the first thing some types do after having a kid. So people are seeing others in their demograph do it and want to do copy them to be like them and so do the same - fashion.

Something ive always liked, I like the Japanese tattooing style as well. I remember going to a local garden centre with my dad as a kid and watching the Koi swim round for ages. I'd like to build a Koi pond at our next house as well... I feel relaxed when I can sit and watch them swim about.

I like the different meanings behind the different colour tattoo's as well, I also have a couple of lotus flowers on the inner part of my arm. Mine is all black and grey with some pink on the cherry blossoms just add a bit of colour in there.

Koi fish tattoos typically symbolize good luck and fortune because legend has it that koi can climb the falls of the Yellow River to become a dragon. Koi often symbolizes a person’s aspirations to improve themselves. A Koi tattoo is often chosen by those that want to showcase their personal strength or perseverance through difficult situations. Those that have high expectations for their life also tend to get koi tattoos.

Nice googling. (http://www.newhealthguide.org/Koi-Fish-Tattoo-Meaning.html)

I didn't know any of that about Koi, have you spent time in Asia?

You think?

Names have always been something people get tattooed. I wouldn't class it a new thing... Maybe you're right though.

Also, without looking back, didn't he say inside his wrist?

I think names of partners used to be the thing, now it seems to be childrens' names. Dunno. There's a definite more recent fashion for a big curling script with the name and DoB though.

I think he said inner forearm - standard place.

I don't know, it all just seems so desperate to comply to me.

You want to get a tattoo? Fine, do what you've done and find a great artist and get some original designs on yourself. Having a council estate special on your arm just because you've managed to ejaculate in someone marks you out as a thoughtless sheep/idiot, to me.

"But upon the arrival of her third child, a son, Jake, she decided it was time to remove the botched tattoo tribute to her daughters so she could have a new design incorporating all three of her children's names".

Either that or get an extra boob
Not a fully thought-through plan, then hehe .

The DM article said:
'I have "Megan" on the left which is where she was placed when she was born and "Jasmine" on the right as that's where she was placed when she was born but you can't read it and they aren't even level.'
Umm, that might not be just the tattoo artist's fault... rofl

A professional victim with little ability to plan ahead? Certainly nuttier than squirrel scensoredt from many of her comments in the DM 'item'. nuts

Note to myself - if I want the p*ss taken out of me then DO post in the Lounge

My children have very ordinary names and I just wanted to show how close I felt to them both as their father. Something small but permanent. I am not planning to have anymore children so no issues with later changes. The p*ss takes haven't put me off but I will just have to man up because I hate needles.

Hi Richard
As you have discovered. PH may not necessarily be the right place for serious responses on this. There are a number of specialist forums about and I'd suggest trying this one:

http://www.bigtattooplanet.com/forums/tattoo-talk/

Names in a nice script can look great. Best to find a good artist and go for a consultation. Depending on where you are it shouldn't be too hard to find a good place.

Good luck.
Then go away and have a think.
