Concorde still looks up to date.

If only it had said "Boeing" on the tail.....
I'm sure they had something on the drawing board right up until somebody walked in with a 747

Concorde was the pinnacle of British/ French engineering , once when I was in legoland with the kids it flew over

Everybody, and I mean everybody stopped still looking up until it had gone

We'll never see the likes of it again , engineered by men with pencils while they smoked pipes , it looks more 21st century than mid 20th

Men stand in a 45,000 ton steel pipe over the Hoover Dam
Some amazing photos but im sure that's not 45,000 tons
Yes some great pictures and some very thought provoking but 450 T would be closer to the mark.

I calculated if it was 50' dia x 24' long and 4" plate it would be around 280T, brave buggers standing in it though.
That sounds better. 45,000 tons would be a couple of warships smile
Still way off - I suspect the original figure was 45,000lbs which is c. 20 tonnes.

Not read the comments but if I recall correctly one crew member survived and was executed by the Japanese

Not the same era though are they. By a long long way. Top is Angkor Wat and those sides are 1.5km long. Every foot of the outer wall is covered with a very graphic battle scene. Absolutely incredible to see.

The Boeing 2707 - which they didn't really want to build unless they were heavilly subsidised by the US government. In the end, the plug was pulled in 1971 after only a full size wooden mock up had been built -

Definitely not 1927. More like the 1907-10 period. And, in fact, it's highly likely that the aeroplane and airship have been "photoshopped" (the old fashioned way) to make the image look modern for the time.

It was not unusual for postcards of that period to have artifacts of modern transport technology inserted into the original image. You often see street views for example with cars or motorcycles superimposed.

Buffalo Bill Cody used to fly his boxkite plane on Salisbury Plain, so it is in a way feasible that this photo is genuine. But for an airship to be there at the same time seems a bit implausible.
