Are those photos of family with the recently deceased?

They're from my personal collection. Do you have anything to contribute besides pedantry? I mean, I'll give you Concorde, but who cares if the Wright brothers' first flight took place in 1902 or 03? In the context of this thread it's hardly that important.
People need something to fill their time!

That's right. Victorian age people had a ritual of taking one last photo of a deceased family member before they were laid to rest. Bodies were usually propped up with a mechanical device to make them as natural looking as possible. I believe taking photos of the deceased with living still occurs in some countries in this age.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure if the captions were off the website where the pictures were being obtained from or whether the poster was making up his own captions.

Maybe not THAT important but the caption of a photo can be as important as the photo itself - especially as the photo is supposed to be depicting a real event that happened at a real time. The Concorde caption was a decade out. The Wright Brothers only a year.
I also confirmed the photo of Buzz Aldrin for you.

Time was when people might be thanked for putting somebody straight, instead of being complained about.

It's a sign of the modern "who cares" approach, perhaps.

I can't stand pointless pedantry for the sake of internet points - but when you're dealing with History and the lessons we can learn from it, you need to be accurate IMHO - there's been no name calling or anything in this thread - just a few helpful corrections.

I guess the way you say something triggers different responses.

I've seen the first pic a few times over the years, I thought it was Depression era, but it's supposedly late 40's - the closest I can find to a reputable source of more information is the New York Post - a Murdock Tabloid, but the text is almost the same as a dozen other 'click bait' versions of it

http://nypost.com/2013/07/14/finding-peace-in-a-li...

Staged or not, it sounds like a one-off incident involving a desperate / disturbed women trying to sell her kids because her family was breaking up and shouldn't be considered 'usual for the day'.

Three things:

1. Motorcycle chariot racing - I want to know more.

2. KKK + ferris wheel = one of the most surreal things I've ever seen.

3. I've lived for a while now, followed motorsport for a long time, and seen a lot of horrific crashes, but I cannot watch the footage of Roger Williamson's crash and its aftermath without crying.

Even the KKK must have needed a break from their normal activities.

It's thought-provoking. The footage is often edited so that the worst of it isn't too apparent. The same with Lorenzo Bandini's crash at Monaco - they usually show the smouldering wreckage after the body has been taken out, but if you get a chance to see the whole thing, jeez it's sickening. The marshals had little or no equipment, and were wearing shorts (!).

Yet I can watch the footage of Tom Pryce and Alex Zanardi's accidents without much effect. I think it's the marshals' seeming refusal to help Williamson that upsets me.

Sorry to hijack the thread, as you were.

Ive read the story behind the first picture a few years ago. Heres a link to what happened to the children, seems you have to answer a couple of questions on the site to access the text though
