I sent something 2nd class signed mid May, never arrived and had to wait until 10th June to report it, I sent all the required info to them, they then sent me a letter 2 weeks later saying they have 30 days from the issue of the letter to investigate and respond to me. I waited 32 days and still didn't hear anything.

Called them up and the bloke said they believe they posted it but forgot to get a signature. They have sent a questionnaire to the addressee but he's not responded yet, I'm not surprised he's got his money (I refunded 10th June) and probably the goods too. I'm now waiting another 10 days until Royal Mail have made their mind up if they delivered it or not. If they decide they have that's is as far as they are concerned.

I sent some jewellery through the mail, Ist class signed for and insured.

An empty box arrived at the jewellers with signs that the packaging had been torn open.

Royal Mail say that if I cannot show that there was goods inside the package before I mailed it then they cannot be held responsible. They also want receipts or valuations, this was very old stuff and going to the jewellers for valuation. I pointed out that the weight on arrival was less than the weight at the post office counter, they said that it could just have been packing material.

This dispute went all through through their appeals procedure and I lost, the light fingered twunt who saw the address on the package and thought I will have that is the only winner.

Bloody Royal Mail, I hate them.

Same with me earlier this year after applying to the Home Office.

Some postie literally has my whole life and could be doing anything with it. Passport, my marriage cert, my grannies marriage cert, my birth cert, mums birth certs, grannies birth cert, pay slips, bank statements, letters from employers. They could be cloning my whole life and I can see it paining me sometime in the future.

I went as far as my local MP getting in contact with them and emailing watchdog as Royal Mail are a shower of ste.

Nothing back from them at all. Nothing to cover the cost of a replacement birth cert never mind passport and all the other documents they lost.

Not just the Post Office, I upgraded my phone with EE/T-mobile (HTC One-M9) Monday, delivery was due with DPD yesterday.
Nothing arrived, turns out they delivered it to my old address...where I lived over 5 years ago!!! Apparently it was signed for in my name?!?! When I last upgraded it came to my current address fine, so how they've cocked this one up I'll never know. Also a complete waste of a day off waiting for the delivery!

Cue now a long wait while they file a possible fraud. Not best pleased. irked

Not DPD's fault, surely? The sender?

True, technically it's EE/T-Mobile, but...was the delivery signed for using my name (in which case it's a possible fraud), or did they sign it with their own surname..in which case the driver should have questioned their ID and perhaps not left it??

Either way it's bloody annoying!

Why? Not updating the tracking information may be a slight irritation, but apparently the package was actually received so it doesn't seem to be the end of the world.

I had the same, sent a mobile phone to my mother after having it repaired, packed in 2 jiffy bags, the bags arrived both ripped open and the phone missing. It was worth nothing to anyone but was ideal for my mum. Tried claiming, sent bank statements showing purchase price but they refused it saying there was no proof there was a phone in the package.

When you posted the phone at the post office they would of asked you what was in the parcel.

You i guess would of said a mobile and they'd then check if you wanted to send it special delivery as it's then insured.

Probably entitled to a partial refund (no signature despite delivery), it happens. Sacks of mail delivered to the office, signed for items get lost in the normal post...

Returned a pair of Grenson Brouges back to Selfridges. and An iPhone 5 to Mazuma , both from the same post office nearby , both went missing.

Never again , anything that goes back now has to be collected by a courier.

He doesn't actually know it's not been signed for as it's showing as ' we have your item' on the system.

I was going to return a pair of Grensons brogues to Selfridges by post but never got round to it. They're still in my hallway cupboard.

Just as well I didn't bother, I suppose!

Completely unacceptable that Royal Mail takes a fee to deliver a service and looses items, I believe that there is widespread theft by employees that is simply tolerated by the Royal Mail

Seriously sending anything valuable whether it be money, jewellery or important documents you have to use 'Special Delivery' NOT 'Recorded Delivery'
Special Deliveries are treated with more care than the crown jewels. Recorded delivery is just a way of getting another quid out of you.

It is like choosing the McCann's to look after your kids rather than Mary Poppins.

If you want something sent safely stop being so tight and pay 'Special Delivery'
