I rather enjoy re waxing the jackets, kind of therapeutic, pot of tea on the go, bit of music on in the back ground, its an enjoyable process for me and satisfaction at the end for a job well done.

However, I think the key is in the preparation, it can be quite a messy process if you're not organised. For anyone who considers the old process too much trouble, I can understand using a spray.

Damn this thread, it has caused me to frivolously buy 3 (!) Barbour jackets, luckily I have acquired them all new at substantially less than the RRP!

Kind of addictive, I think the balance of cost / practicality / quality / fashionability (not even a word, but sounds right!) is pretty good with Barbour. I don't doubt there are "better" jackets out there, but for my family and I, they tick the boxes. I have 5 jackets, mix of light and heavier types including 3 classic wax jackets, Mrs Hacksaw has 2 jackets, little Miss Hacksaw (8) has 1 jacket and a gilet and small Master Hacksaw has a boys Barbour Cowen Commando and a hoody, gilet thing. Fair to say, we like their gear!

Inspired by this thread I dig out the tin of Barbour wax and gave my 1992 vintage coat a coat.

It was letting in water somewhere round the shoulders/collar so I gave all the seams lots of wax.

I deliberately went out in the rain in it,but it stopped raining. I'll probably buy some of the spray was to touch mine up and to freshen up by excellent 3 year old 35 quid wax jacked which has to be a cracking bargain. Warm with padding poachers pockets, a detachable hood, the lot!

When did Barbour change the check on their linings to dark? My old Barbour has a green based check on a white background (It's yellow now after I fell in a peaty stream 20 years ago)

The lining depends on the colour of the jacket.

Olive vs DK Green vs Racing vs Rustic vs ......etc.

All the links just connect to the barbour site. I think it's dodgy as a dodgy thing.

When I get a new one I'll go to the factory shop. I don't live far from South Shields.
