The wife's very close friend; at the time, wanted to back out of her wedding on the actual day as she had been shagging the groom's half brother; whom the groom hated (he didn't know she was shagging him), for the past few years and had decided then and there that actually she didn't want to get married to the groom, even though they had been together for over ten years already.

They married and split within 9 months.

That is where I'm currently at. The thought of going along and saying congratulations to him and his new wife through gritted teeth makes me cringe TBH.

My niece cancelled her wedding a couple of years ago,not for these reasons.

After hearing the reason,it was for the best.

Your mate is about to have his life flushed down the toilet! She's cheated on him (more than once), she's controlling enough to have taken over the wedding to the point he is only allowed to invite three friends and he's about to sign over half of everything he owns!! yikes
She's also about to sign over everything she owns. So when she commits adultery he's in for taking it all plus custody of the nipper. Revenge is best served cold and all that ...

And in the real world, she gets the house, the child, the car and child maintenance until the child is 18.

No it wasn't that.

Their arguements apparently were epic.

I am with Toxic on this, I true friend points out the truth even if difficult.

How about offer to drive him to the service and bugger off into the opposite direction as fast as possible so he misses the whole thing?

Is he sure the child is his if she has a habit of shagging around?

You should go because he is your mate.

When it all falls down around his ears you will be there to pick him up as you are mates.

I always thought that's what mates were for?
I would say don't go, because he doesn't want you there and you don't want to go. the measure of friendship is not now, but later, if/when it goes tits up he still has your friendship. that will mean more then, than any harsh words said now. sometimes, you just have to let things take their own path and at their own pace.
