And you've made me chuckle, too. One, because I'm the guilty fellow for starting last year's thread...even earlier, and two, only last night was I researching winter tyres for the forthcoming winter blizzards, Snowmagddon and the expected jolly winter jaunts to the Alpes.

PS have already cleaned log burner and chimney in preparation...personally, can't wait for the white stuff...though an Indian summer would be most welcome.

Ah, Autumn is arriving. It arrived about 2-3 weeks ago here in the North West. Saying that, I expect the usual recent winters; mild, wet, and annoyingly windy....

I think this thread shouldn't really start until the end of September/ beginning of October.

Snow is o.k. when it's at the North or South poles or up some mountain where loonies with planks attached to their feet hang about.
But keep the fking horrible stty stuff away from mefurious I'm hoping for a reasonably mild winter without that evil st that some maniacs like!

I used to start with the first forecast of snow on Cairngorm.

The kids can't wait that long now wink

Sitting watching the telly and I've got the central heating on. Winter is definitely on its way.

My wife will be severely disappointed if we don't get a lot of snow this winter.

Express has now updated with the worst winter in 50 years story. Thought was supposed to be the last 2(+) years?

On the plus side saw the best northern lights I've ever seen last night. It was just crazy for a short period of time, extremely fast moving, green and red, bright despite the pretty bright twilight. Used to seeing them, but despite that still did a bit of this type of impression... biggrin

Why do the express always make a big deal of the weather? Its always a 'record heatwave' or 'record snowfall' or 'massive artic plume'.

And they're ALWAYS wrong.

Sorry, but it annoys me. s.

Selling papers and getting hits on the website - why I didn't bother linking. I'm sure they must have a winter terror reminder in their calendar each year no matter what is predicted.

Having just moved back to the UK after 15 years in the Middle East, this year had better be the snowiest, frostiest, Winteriest Winter since the Thames froze over.

My 8-9 yr old kids have never seen snow and I may have inadvertently promised them a Winter wonderland.....

A bit of dew on the car this morning. Time to fit the winter tyres yet?

Thundery showers passing off to the west of us yesterday, not much in the way of rain overnight though. Today, bright and breezy, moderate south westerly, but dry.

Looks like we might get our first gales of the autumn on Monday.

The express said the same last year.... did it happen? Same reporter too.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/nature/528643/Winter...

Oh, and in 2013 too; again same reporter;

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/443462/Winter-201...

Double Oh.... in 2012 as well.... Starting to see a pattern here?

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/358717/Coldest-wi...

I suppose if they predict the same mahem every year, eventually they will be right and they can spend a week bragging about it!!

The bloody Express fks us every year by declaring it'll be the worst winter in 50 years mad

That said I no longer live in London so my chances of seeing snow have doubled purely by relocating to Hertfordshire.
