Started work on a new project outside of the middle east in November. Chance of seeing snow this year? Zero as I don't believe the Seychelles gets no snow but it does get serious quantities of rain! So a very wet Christmas for me this year then.
Oh no, how sad, what a shame. I'll see if Geldof is free for the song - what colour do you want the wristbands?

This is my friend in Michigan's house - I hate her irked

By the look of the outdoor furniture, I'm willing to bet she also has pretty warm summers.

So, lovely warm summers & snowy cold winters.

Someone remind me again why we bother living in the UK?

Less chance of being shot. Affordable healthcare. 6 weeks holidays. Affordable college fees. Nicer food. Can get somewhere "not here" without a 6 hour flight.

As UKMO noted in briefing last night, no current model signs, as yet, of anything notably cold in the forseeable.

Snowed in Luxembourg yesterday, a couple of cm. It rained last night. It's all gone.

My brother in Illinois, however, has received more and more snow since this was taken....

If I lived in the US I'd have a house like this, then buy a wood panelled station wagon and pretend I was Clarke Griswold.

Hopefully my wife would look like Beverly d'Angelo too so I wouldn't care about it snowing as I'd be 100% focusing on trying to snap it off in her.
Oh yeah, definitely, the late eighties version, not the slightly scary one in Entourage.

Michael Winner had a go on that, the lucky bd.

Saw the Netatmo weather station dip down to £74 on Amazon earlier, was back up to full price before I could get home and agonise over whether I could justify the extra cost just so I can see the temperature whilst I'm lazing in bed. Anyone snag one?

About 3" in the end. As the actress said to the Bishop.

Cold, miserable rain...

Looks like high pressure should arrive in around 10 days. Depending on where it parks, could be some interesting results. Low likelihood of any snow, at the moment.

I hadn't checked my thermometer for a while, but the min had registered -7.5C some time in the last couple of weeks, must have been last Sat or Sun night as I woke up cold in bed under my summer duvet. Some winters never get that cold down here. It's a strange old thing the weather.

Used get get really cold down south, my bog froze over in hants! ...but on the coast, even this far north in the Highlands, the lowest I've seen this year is -0.3C Only been below zero twice all year. 20 miles inland mind, a few winters ago, I saw -23C ... which cracked my windscreen.

Today's tweet - taken earlier this week, shows what the gulf stream does. not just height, but proximity to the sea:

Yes, as I've said before, I used to keep records, saw late -teens/low 20s lots of times in the 80s, when the winters are exceptionally cold in Jan/Feb it is often colder down south/central than Scotland owning to the typical anticyclonic set up that causes it, and the fact there is less sea between us and the continent.

My surprise was that in the mildest November for years, there was one of the coldest November minimums for years - the randomness of the weather.

I have had one since Jan… works just fine. Great to be able to see what's going on (temp, noise etc) inside and outside your house remotely too. Spooky. Also good to have all the years stats at your fingertips. We were on for one of the driest years ever up here… until November rolleyes
