Eastern US is also warm.

The cold is still locked in the Arctic, and will break out in the 2nd half to leave a winter we'll remember...

Please, please, please, please....

Yes. My colleague who lives in DC has said this is the first green Christmas there that he can remember.

Nature is all about balance, so something is going to have to give, as the pendulum is wayyyyyy over one side at the moment.

I've spent the last couple of hours pottering round the garden.

Even washing mud of piles of carrots and parsnips didn't leave me with cold hands.

I hope we keep it! That said supposed to be warming up and rain this weekend, which will make horrible conditions. Interesting to see what happens with the arctic sea ice monitoring this year... cold winter in the arctic could mean a lot of it and so create a bit of contradiction in the global warming/ hottest year story.

We've got bloody daffodils sprouting in the lawn.

This is really not funny in any way, shape or form

Presumably your Rayburn is in rude health?

At least you don't need your Rayburn

The Rayburn is in rude health. It's starting first time, every time. It's being quiet, economical, not smelly and retaining its heat all night.

In short, we're screwed.

The only shining light is that my 4WD pick up has been missing from the drive since Monday. My working assuming is that Chris-not-the-landy-man has taken it to fix the 4WD that I forgot to check when buying the thing and rapidly discovered is buggered. Or it's been nicked by s and I haven't reported it due to too much Christmas cheer this week.

Never mind, it snowed again here today (albeit the very occasional flurry only), was -12c and there's 70mph winds expected tomorrow.

Unlikely to be more snow for at least a week, though.

I cant smell anything, reckon on 11th Jan based on my highly trained nose and doesnt smell apocalyptic, current air has a hint of Morrocco/North Africa about it, is that actually possible or just mental ? walked the dog in a t shirt last night.

If you look to the East the cold is inexorably seeping down, this is a good sign for persistent cold for us later in the winter.

Although it is warm in the UK, it isn't exceptional by any means. People have short/selective memories.

Alp forecast remains dire: http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=news;sto...

For Xmas Day it's pretty much a write off for the UK, although elevated western areas, particularly Scotland have an outside chance of snow.

After Xmas there is hope of a shake up, all sorts of signs of this weather pattern ending with some snowmeggedon potential, but that's all it is. As things stand, Europe is warm and not condusive for giving us what we need.

We fly off skiing a week today. There is not much snow currently and a warm week will melt what little there is left frown

I can't see any decent snowfall in the Alps until way into mid January. This is going to be a tough year for a lot of bars and restaurants...

Apparently Alpe d'huez is 12 degrees at resort level at the moment with no real sign of change in the near future. Thank god I'm not there until April. At home at the moment it's very spring like with a lot of spring bulbs in full bloom!

The web cams show some die hard skiers but the snow does look shallow and very patchy,

Alps are tropical. Currently sitting outside, eating ice-cream. It must be about 15C.

No end in sight according to the Swiss forecasts.
