I've been a member for a fair while primarily due to my interest in cars but in the last year I've contributed a lot more to several forums.

This weekend I went to my brothers wedding, a lovely do with all kinds of people. Family and friends, young and old, powerfully built Directors and their posse, cleaners and engineers. A really nice mix which I guess is normal.

The only person who wasn't normal I think was me and I blame PH.

I have an opinion on EVERYTHING, even on stuff I don't know much about I have to put it across.
I argue about EVERYTHING, no matter the point of view I have to put an alternative.
My opinions are REALLY EXTREME. I thought most would have a viewpoint on topics (the type of which PH has) but they aren't bothered.
I try to inflict my view on everybody regardless as to whether they want it or not.

I feel I am inhabiting a parralel universe on PH and when you get to talk to people in real life things which I (we) get all uptight about are insignificant, they don't even know about them!

It's happening in the workplace too and while I'm listening to the radio, watching TV, out n about, it's all pervading.

PH has turned me into a know all who argues about everything.

Should I be concerned? I am thinking the opposite, that all the other non PH people need to get on here so they can become more opinionated and join my club.

What do others think? Am I really bothered what they think, should I be?

You should definitely be concerned. As a pub expert on the human psyche I would say you're done for. In the Looney bin for you! Thank you for posting...

I'm not too bad so far, I do find myself involuntarily gagging when someone even mentions diesel or heaven forfend finance. I even started talking to a co worker about how the colour of the streetlights had changed and it was so dangerous I couldn't leave the house after dark! I'm sure it's nothing though. The general public are cretins, mind.

Perhaps the argument here is not so much the case that he is an arse, it's rather the size of the arse and whether it could benefit from free NHS treatment, or he's just a lazy basket and needs to do it for himself and in Maggie's day no one ever was an arse, except certain cabinet ministers who had a penchant for the odd one here or there.

I know there is satire behind this post, but it definitely holds some truth.

PH brings out the best in us, if you're a bit of a c*nt before, you're a proper c*nt after a few years.

Correct. There is a degree of satire. Without a doubt I've always been opinionated but my opinions now are so extreme compared to others I met, yet here on PH they seem pretty normal.

On PH people are arguing the toss at length about the most insignificant thing and obsessing about shoes, cigars, lawns, women, parking tickets.

It's quite remarkable that I was chatting to people in my role as best man and not getting the feedback and banter I expected, deserved in deed DEMAND!!! I'm a powerfully built multiple Director FFS, these people should show some respect.

I've always been an opinionated ahole, so much so that a school friend's mum, who I'd only met once, gave me a fridge magnet with the slogan 'Everyone's entitled to my opinion' on it upon getting my A Level results many years ago...

However, since joining this venerable site, I've got worse. With the effect that my career and social circle has improved massively. I'm paid to be a know it all, the more I demonstrate that, the more I've been able to command and the better the references. My friends, who can't seem to summon up the effort to form their own opinions, now just ask my thoughts and take them as their own.

My other half is less happy, however I've informed her of the potential repercussions via frozen sausage insertion and so she's stopped moaning about it.

See, for me it's different - being on here has helped me learn to bite my tongue, rather than steam in with comments on topics I may know little about.

Especially as people round these parts are quick to 'quote for posterity', any posting done is carried out after careful consideration of what I intend to say, which has happily carried over into real life quite well.

I (personally) now tend not to speak first and think later.

The Internet in general has allowed and even encouraged people to argue at will, for as long as they want, at pretty much any time, about almost anything.

Facebook is fairy pointless for arguing as most people you see arguing or commenting on posts are often uneducated, illiterate or just simply stupid.

So that bring us to PH, which is the home of some very very intelligent and knowledgable people, and also some huge egos, which inevitably leads to some utterly massive, complex and unrelenting arguments.

All in all it's very easy to get into the mindset of challenging the options of people if you spend too much time on a forum.

This then leads to you argue with people in 'real life' only to discover that most people simply don't give a crap and don't really want to argue about much at all.
