Cambridge, Oxford, London, Bristol, Birmingham....
Add Brighton onto that list
With the exception of Birmingham which I thought was made for cars (I've not been there in a while though) they are all nice places to spend time.

So maybe there is some benefit in making cities more livable scratchchin

Bristol.

The Mayor is a prick.
The roads are akin to the sort of thing found on a new planet.
the 20 limit everywhere is about as useful as a knitted condom.
The RPZ's in and around the town centre work as well as a hole in the head.
The Mayor is a prick.
They seem to spend money on new cycle paths, rather than improve the roads which the cyclists use anyway.
Is it obvious I don't like the mayor?
Same problems in London. used to like boris until I realised he likes to totally fk with anyone who isn't a cyclist. Grrrrr

General Gassing....

Well sometimes wink

It's all diesel hatches and mumsnet in some threads these days.
How can you tell the diesel hatches aren't PH cars without knowing how they were financed and for how long the owner can argue that the way it was paid for is the most efficient way of paying for it?

Tameside, Greater Manchester.

Fixed disguised speed cameras every few hundred yards, especially between Stalybridge and Glossop.

You forgot that the Mayor is a prick.
As someone who cycles a lot, the roads are st, unless you are on the cycle track. There are potholes and inexplicably deep manhole covers everywhere. Not helped by the recent surface dressing frenzy, now the manhole covers are deeper and the potholes are harder to spot.

Can't really help a lot of the roads, there are too many steep hills and bits of harbour in the centre to actually have a good layout.

Wouldn't say it was the most un PH though, there are a few good roads around and some nice cars here and there.

That's my point exactly, surely, as we're supposed to share the roads with cyclists, surely it would make sense to spend some money on the roads and tarmac them, that way cars get a smoother surface so they're happy and cyclists don't need to take the primary position because of the shocking road surface in the corners.

Bristol once again. 16.5 miles by car, 17.2 cycling... and most of the time it's still quicker to cycle.

if you ignore shower and changing time
Spot on - 10.5 miles by bike , 11 by car - bike wins all the time - just quicker - ignoring every daft and unneccessary cycle route and a wry grin for exceeding the 20 limits....

Bedides where's the fun in driving in rush hour traffic?...

Bristol is surrounded by some cracking driving roads though...:-)

Been verbally abused 3 times in the last month for taking the primary position due to the shocking state of the roads, also nearly killed by a bus who thought I was taking the piss. I thought the mayor would be into getting the roads better for bikes as he is on his bike all the bloody time. I nearly run him over once and saw him last week in his hi-viz.

This x infinity, I would rather drive Bristol every day for the rest of my days than attempt Oxford again!

Edited, wrong quote.
