I'm going to stick my neck out again and say 'that is a Churchill'.

I have a bomb shelter in my garden.

It now serves as a beer cooler and spider refuge.

Drive past this most days, deepest Romney Marsh. A tank trap by all accounts. Interestingly, we had some issues with the sewers down our road last year and when the diggers started digging several of these where found buried under the road which caused all sorts of problems with the repair work.

Bit of a tenuous link but might be interesting for some on here.
Tonight (8pm Ch4) on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces there is a couple transforming their garden air raid shelters.

love this topic. Here in Kent we are surrounded by old WWII stuff, though sadly I don't have much in the way of specifics to contribute.

I was told that the methodist church in the village I used to live in Kent was rebuilt after the war as it suffered a direct hit from a V1, and there was a a jagged bit of metal that someone had found in the garden that I was told was part of the bomb casing. Whether either of these things is true I don't know.

Oh and at one time there was what people claimed to be a Sherman tank gun barrel discarded by the side of the Elham Valley railway line after it had been dug out of a field next to the old trackbed.

This is the remains of a propeller from a B17 Flying Fortress, believed to have been shot down by occupying forces in Guernsey whilst returning from a raid on France, around 11 June 1944.

Interesting. I'm no expert on WW2 aircraft however I've just googled images of B17 props, some indeed do look larger, but some images of wrecked ones look very similar to this one. I've just taken this information from the small placard attached to the prop - more than happy to be corrected by someone with far more knowledge than me!
