I should add that I'm not a powerful company director and anything above Florence and Fred would be seen as relatively high quality

CT certainly seem the best for choice and value for money.

Not a fan of CT - poor quality and fit IMHO.
I wear either Jaeger or Simon Carter. Expensive normally but go into TK Maxx and you'll often find both brands for around £25 a shirt.
+1 for jaeger/Simon Carter, always impressed.

I must admit I do think TM Lewin/Charles Tyrwhitt used to be much better quality, but the last batch I ordered went straight back as they have really cut costs.

I'm pretty average build, a bit of a chest going on but otherwise relatively normal build, would you recommend the slim fit?
I think CT have changed the fit of their 'slim fit' range recently and are now a bit tighter

I bought 4 Charles Tyrwhitt shirts when I started my new job 6 months ago and I've been chuffed to bit with them.

To me they feel very good quality indeed. Thick cotton, they wash very well and free brass collar stiffeners with each shirt.

I bought the short sleeve, slim fit, non iron ones and wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

M&S Ultimate Non-Iron - button cuff, range of fits, and if you get them out of the washer smartly and hang them to dry, the ironing is a doddle.

Hawes & Curtis customer here, must have bought 20 or so shirts from them over the last 5 years and never had a problem. Also have an excellent returns policy.

Closest store to me is 50 miles each way so would want to order online
Not sure the store list is up to date. There is a store in Park Street, Bristol which doesn't appear on that list for instance.

^^ yes Excellent service too.

If you want to go a little over budget, look at Olymp too.
I'll second Olymp, they're all I wear now, nice stuff.

+1 for Charles Tyrwhitt.

Non iron, extra slim fit for me.

Charles Tyrwhitt are the best high street brand for the money IMHO.

Tyrwhitt shirts are 'roomy'. If you're 'normal' go for slim fit.
They do extra slim fit too (I find these better as I like a roomy neck).

Folks

I need some new work shirts and was hoping for a recommendation. You'd think this would be easy enough but alas no!

Price range of about £20-25 per shirt max, I tried the Thomas Nash ones from Debenhams a little while ago and thought the quality was quite poor - not much better than supermarket ones. I then tried their 'St George by Duffer' ones which were better on quality but they were an absolute b*****d to iron.

So over to you, good people!
What do you work at? Lumberjack? pilot? chimney sweep? male stripper? croupier?

I have a mixture.

3 from M&S white with cufflink sleeves (99 for 3) - sleeves are too long mind which is annoying, still hurts me to this day.

2 from TK Maxx (Simon Carter @£20 each)

1 From Reiss (£90)

1 from Gieves and Hawkes (Blue with white collar and cuffs) xmas present £120

Will check out Charles whatshisface, trouble is I really prefer to be able to try on, though if the returns policy is ok that's not so bad!
They have stores up and down the country where you can try on.

http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/Charles-Tyrwhitt-uk-stor...

Go for the non-irom shirts. You won't look back. You will still have to iron, but are so easy! I live abroad, and still get all workshirts from here.
No no no no no. This sums up their "non-iron" shirts perfectly. You still have to bloody well iron them!

TM Lewin every time. I bought four for about £125. I have NEVER ironed any of them and they stay super crease free. And I get 5 mins of my life back, every day.

No brainer.
