An atlas of the world, with commentary (a book with fold out maps) but as its from about 1600, the world hasn't been fully discovered so the earth looks mental ! lots of gaps and distortion. the commentaries on countries are great: eg Africa is basically a "nation of unchristen like savages" and so on.
Would love a look at that, got any pics?

Was just thinking the same thing!

Cheated out of a substantial amount of money due to company owners son stealing money and then blaming my grandpa 2 years after he retired (company accountant), he then promised them the family home to them in repayment and paid them in excess of £200k out of his pension in additional repayments.

Swear if I ever meet that family I would need to be held back.

I got a really cool bronze style cutlery set and all his old cameras and calculators back from the 60s onwards.

OH and I would do very well out of our direct parents passing away, nearly into 7 figures, but they are all under orders to spend it all as we are doing ok ourselves and don't need it, if they decide to leave us some, then so be it.

My Dad doesn't have much but I'd much rather he spent it on a good time for himself than fretting over leaving it to me and my brother and sister - he could spend the fking lot as far as I'm concerned.
That's my thoughts about my parents. Especially as my sister is a worthless bit of scum & doesn't deserve anything. I'd happily give up my half to see her get nothing.
whats happended re the sister?
Never worked, habitual liar, bred for a free house etc

Everything I'm not really. Hated her from my earliest memories tbh

I inherited my grandfathers 30 year service gold watch awarded to him in 1969 , despite being mechanical , left in a drawer for 30 years and never serviced it keeps excellent time.

Makes you wonder why modern watches need £300 services

It's disgusting to see and hear stories of people scrabbling around after their parents or grandparents belongings just before they go.
Yup, experienced this. Couldn't quite believe it - people talking about selling a house whilst their mother was in her hospital bed. I think my "she's not f***ng dead and she might come home yet you heartless pr**k" went down well.....

I received my Grandfather's wedding ring when my Grandma died (Grandfather passed away before I was born). We had it melted down and re-formed for my wedding with their initials and my partner and I's initials inscribed inside.

Funny thing inheritance, for most people comes at a time when they already have their life sorted anyway. Help in your 20's when getting on the property ladder is far more useful than money in your 40's or 50's.

Told my parents to spend it, they made enough sacrifices in the first 25 years of my life that its their turn to spend it and enjoy themselves now.

Ah, I get you! We have no contact with our father's sister for that very reason after our grandmother died.

I've never been left anything and never will, I've resigned myself to that fact and planned my life accordingly.

My Mum was executor of my Grandad's will and told me that I'd get nothing but my cousin would get £x thousand on my Mums instruction. The reason being 'I didn't need it and my cousin did'

Fair enough, I got it and respected her decision.

I once worked with a guy who had older parents. He was an only child and all he talked about is what he would get when his folks died. I personally found it very ugly and completely the wrong motivation.

My kids will get very little when I die, I hope this gives them the motivation to make their own mark on the world (go the wishful thinking!)

The only thing I'd like to inherit is my mums' sapphire ring. It's cash value is irrelevant, it's the memories that are priceless.

My late Grandfather bought the stone with a vast wad of Rupees that he accumulated by selling Wilkinson Sword razor blades to the locals when he worked in what was Ceylon back in the 60's. Due to currency restrictions at the time he was unable to convert the Rupees into Sterling so he needed something small but valuable to bring home.

He bought a couple of sapphies and some vast moonstones and smuggled the lot out of the country with the help of a bung to the head of customs whistle

I think the only thing I would like to inherit of my folks is my fathers watch collection... yes its worth a bit, but I had a part in each and every watch he chose ( I helped hi pick each one) as he has the same respect for the mechanicals of the watch and not their look. My brother does not respect that and only sees the value of the collection and rather than be the custodian of it and pass it on, he would rather sell it.

This includes a special watch we bought his that had meaning (his birth year) and took me a long time to find.

That to me is worth more than the house if the leave it to us (its worth more too)...

A couple of cheap watches which i keep going and £4.5k left from dad's estate after bills which was split 3 ways with my sister and an elderly female friend of my dad who looked after him through thick and thin and sat through his dying days in hospital with him.
It doesn't seem much, but to his pal it was a large sum of money which she used to renew bits of worn out flooring, get some new electric gear, cooker, microwave etc and buy some presents for her grandkids so i thought it was money well spent as it brought unexpected help to someone else smile

The FIL is presently "sorting his affairs" by offloading bits of cash into plans for my kids whilst enjoying the rest as much as he can with my full encouragement as i keep telling him there's no pockets in a shroud smile
