nothing yet, i say yet because death and taxes are inevitable.

my MIL has dementia and we may have to sell her place as it's getting more risky to keep her in her own place.

we are worried about selling the house to pay for her care, not because we want anything from it, but we are worried about how long the money will last, then we get into the murky world of the social services paying for her care. they don't even pay for her meals on wheels at present.

when she does go my wife will be a wreck, her dad died 15 years ago and she still gets uncomfortable seeing a funeral procession.

my parents i think are quite healthy.
Had pill to swalow that one and I bet if your MIL could have seen it coming she'd be equally as pissed off. The money has to come from somewhere to look after the elderley and infirm but it don't half scupper your plans to ensure your offspring have a little something to make life easier.

There must be a way around it??

We inherited my mother in laws estate approx. 4 years ago which enabled us to now live mortgage free as well as purchase a brand new flat to rent out with some money left for a rainy day. We greatly appreciate/respect what we were left with and don't waste a penny (well, maybe a few were wasted) !!
It really doesn't matter how obviously jovial the intention of an OP on PH, there is ALWAYS someone who has to come along and let everyone know how rosy their life is and how well off they are. It's an absolute rule.

Chipboard (or whatever) no one here is impressed. No one cares. We want gags, not your bloody balance sheet!
Wasn't Chibbard just answering the question, of what inheritance they got? I think you'd be hard pushed to talk about inheritance without talking about receiving large sums of money.

Don't think so.

I have visions of him going round at Halloween dressed as the Grim Reaper.......
Maybe the wrong icon to put there, don't get me wrong I love my Grandmother to bits, she is 91 and I really hope she hits the magic ton, I meant that I was just a very lucky person to have that kind of money in the family, sorry to put it across in the wrong way
Fair comment and all the best to your Gran. Decent of you to come back with a reasoned reply rather than the regulation PH hissy fit!

My Nan left me 5k which I spent on an IT training course and new suit for job interviews. This enabled me to get out of a job I hated and eventually become an IT manager at a global company…..thanks Nan!!

And please accept my apologies, I misinterpreted what you put, regrettably things in writing can be misconstrued.

Of course apologies accepted, I do realise that I did not post properly in the first place and I probably would have thought exactly the same thing!!

Gran died a few years back, left everything to my dad but it did mean he could help my sister and I with a 50k deposit for a house.

Parents are in there 70's but both (thankfully) fighting fit. I joke with my Dad about him leaving me the E-Type, well, I say joke - I'm deadly serious.

I inherited £700 when I was 17.

I had the best DVD player ever (at a time where this technology was moving fast)

Great investment as I'm sure you'll agree.

I've inherited a gold sovereign from 1911 or something, that's about it.

My mother keeps going on about her house, but I've told her to do that equity release or whatever, get the money out of it now while she can enjoy it!

I'll be working until I'm dead so may do the same smokin

A third of a flat from my dad, add a mortgage and I was able to buy my siblings' two thirds, which was my first step on the property ladder. Everything else was left to my step-mum. Tried to buy his Cayman S off her, but she decided that she'd rather sell it to a dealer which was a shame. Would have been nice to keep it in the family.

Would still rather have him around though, he was only 61.

A dry sense of humour
A tendency to go to fat after 40
Good common sense
50% of the family home, which enables us both to be able to buy a family home each without a mortgage
Jewellery of sentimental value

I'd give it all for another hour with them when they were fit & well cry

I'm too young to be an adult, I want to have a parent & still be a child
