If, prior to this thread, someone put a case in front of me, containing a million in cash, and said that it's mine if I can say which country the rugby world cup was being held - I'd have been fecked!

Yes, I knew the rugby world cup was on, in fact, I watched a match in the pub! However, I didn't know where it was being held, and didn't care enough to seek out that info.

I also don't own a telly, and I tend not to read newpapers - especially not the sport sections unless there's news about a sport that interests me.

I get my news from various online sources, but again, don't bother with sport stuff.

<shrugs> Feel free not "not buy" it if you like, but that's the truth.

So in the last few months you haven’t been to London (3 locations), Cardiff, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Leicester, Brighton, Milton Keynes, Gloucester or Exeter because they are all host cities and have had a fair amount of publicity around the fact.

Jesus Christ.

No.

I live in the west coast of Scotland, I have no reason to be in any of the places you mentioned. I haven't even been in England this year!

I'm not responding to you again after this, if you don't believe me, fine, but I'm not pandering to any more of your questions.

Wow, someone's uptight. Maybe if you said you were Scottish / lived in Scotland it might explain it, I wouldn't necessarily expect someone out side of the country to know (even if it is one of the worlds largest events) although rugby is a quite a bit deal north of the border, particularly as they are so rubbish at football.

Agreed. In fact anyone who uses a silly name for a car manufacturer (Scooby, Beemer, VDub etc.) should be investigated by Operation Yewtree.

I've heard of them, but never paid attention.

Wayne Rooney - footballer? Round or oval ball - I dunno
Adele - pop singer i guess?
There's a new James Bond film, but I don't know the title ; is Daniel Craig still 007, or someone new?

I'm not making it up, just uninterested in a lot of pop culture.

Now you know that is bks!

I know all about Rugby and some celebrities but I don't think that Jimi/Aw111 stance is odd at all.
If something doesn't interest me then I don't register it.
For example, although I watch an average amount of TV I could not name a single advert that currently runs because my mind completely switches to something else when they are on.
Same with many other things that simply don't interest me. FOr example I couldn't name a single current golf player (unless tiger woods still plays).
I couldn't name a single American footballer or baseball player despite them theoretically being more famous than our own sports people.

Like others I have no interest in football whatsoever - its changed from a sport into a cash cow. I worked with a town team player for a while (great bloke and skills) but even he was pissed off at turning out religiously and doing his bit for £20 in the snow when premiership players are earning millions for what he regarded as a hobby.
I haven't a clue who is playing who at the moment, I've been to matches as hospitality and enjoyed them but only for the match thats in front of me, a week later all the relative team positions have changed and I really don't live a life dull enough to be arsed to keep up with it. Its like watching a soap for the rest of your life its that fking boring.
Same goes for F1
Adele? Yes shes good but I gave up trying to remember song names when they stopped announcing them on the radio

As long as the masses are prepared to pay for st streamed into their living rooms and lives there will always be someone more than happy to keep supplying it

I'm with you, TheJimi. I don't take notice of that stuff either because I'm not interested in it so don't care about it.

There is a massive difference between not being interested in something and claiming to have never have heard of it. I'm not interested in tennis but I still know Wimbledon goes on every year along side other opens in across the world.

Seeing as Thejimi posts he spends time in the gym, he must either have his eyes closed or go to the only gym in the world without a TV blaring away.

Oh do fk off.

Until recently (ie last month) I had been training in an old barn on a farm, which was full of nothing else but weights.

Dunno why I'm even justifying myself to you.

Edit: I now train in a local PureGym, and all the TV's there have MTV type music channels playing - I've never seen them play anything else - so your gym TV theory doesn't wash, Sherlock.

Edit 2: Further, if you actually take the time to read my posts in this thread, you'll note that I even said I watched bits of a rugby WC game in the pub and still didn't know where they were playing!

People desperate to believe everyone else is as obsessed with 'pop culture' as them - cringeworthy.

Give it a break chaps - some of us don't spend our lives glued to the TV. smile

I usually stick my earphones in when I'm at the gym. That way I don't have to listen to people talking about rugby, football, or celebrity dancing/baking/talent shows. Those types seem quite vacant especially when they insist that I have seen the show which forms such a large and important part of their lives.

doog, it is!

To be fair, after the recent 1/4m investment, it's actually pretty good now.

Do you go?

I'd heard that actually, I looked in the window after it opened and it looked pretty grim, but haven't since.

The wife was trying to get me into playing tennis with her so we're up the road at the David Lloyd.
I didn't fancy it much before, but now with the big extension and as I said, the 1/4m investment, the difference is huge.

If you want a stehole, try the Glasgow PureGym on Bath St - horrid place yuck

Get a day pass for the Paisley one, I reckon you'll be surprised yes
