What got you into art?
I have been drawing and attempting to paint for just over a year now.
One random day I found a painting online of a car that looked a bit like my speedster, it was a blue bird painting by Jack Vettriano (Birth of a Dream). I did a bit of googling and found some others that I liked, then I realised that never in a million years would I own a Jack Vettriano. After sticking him into wikipedia I found out he didnt start painting till he was 21. That made me realise that to be good you didnt have to start young.
I have dyslexia so I thought that this meant I would be automatically crap at drawing, I mean if I cant pick up a pen and draw letters why should I be able to draw anything else?
But then I thought sod it! So I went out and got myself a cheep sketch pad and some pencils H6 HB and an H6, sat down and watched every youtube video I could find.
That week after watching a tutorial on youtube I drew my first half decent eye, this.
3 weeks ago I did an eye sketch and it came out like this.
I didnt think I had improved much until I looked back, I just hope I can carry on at the same pace of improvement.
Yesterday I had my first play with watercolours since I was about 4, and it came out like this.

I was wondering why anyone would draw Rolf Harris! It's very good though, I mean no disrespect
Great spider KM. Not easy to get the perception of depth you have achieved with watercolours. Like your eyes too MF. Well done. Thanks to all for the kind comments re my work. Always enjoyed doodling as a kid, then experimented a bit with oils when I first left high school back in 1970. Did about a dozen works, then lost interest (discovered girls and cars...). Only picked up the brushes again 10 years ago. Entirely self taught so I guess I'm lucky some people like them enough to buy some.

Thanks, I sold the spider a couple of months ago and I've been asked to do another. Spiders are good fun to paint.I'm largely self taught as well. I enjoyed art at school but didn't want to carry it on afterwards. I did a short course at the beginning of the year which really got me back into it, part of my front room is rapidly turning into a studio. It's my plan for next year to start taking it more seriously.
Here's one of mine....
I posted it in the Lemans paintings thread as this scene was from last year's trip involving our group's 4 vehicles.
I'm clumsy so the Porsche has a nasty crease where it leaves the canvas...
and I fully admit I love Tim Layzell's style and have nothing original to offer...
well not strictly true as I did this too...
