.......But I can't not wait until their both bathed and in bed! Finally get a couple of hours peace and quiet, steak dinner and a bottle of ice cold beer. Bliss ! Ha ha

I spent 21 years looking forward to them moving out, then they did and I hated it. Trust me they will be gone far too quickly, make the most of every minute you can.

Is the bathing and bedtime something you have to wait long for? Perhaps your au pair is slacking.

Why do parents have kids who then want them out of the house ASAP?

I know what you mean, my eldest seems to turn into Satan when it's time for bed, right about the same time I've got zero tolerance left.

Because, shockingly, they turn out nothing like those winsome healthy happy helpful ones you see in movies and Bisto adverts, and they don't 'complete your life' like parents of two year olds always promise you they will as they try and lure you into the same trap they fell into.

It's almost like parenthood is misrepresented somehow. biggrin

Have a 13yo daughter and an 11yo stepson

11yo has recently started high school, lost his grandma (they were very close) and his dad and stepmum have just split, all within the space of the last 3 months. He had just reached monosyllabic stage as it was and it's a tough job at the moment. Very self absorbed - he even uttered the words "don't you know I've just lost my grandma" to his mum the other day, Not like she has lost anyone is it rolleyes

As for my daughter, when she comes at weekends she is great. Drives her mother mental as she gets all the attitude during the week - fortunately we get on well so still work together on the behaviour front

I love them both to bits, but the age they are at is not much fun at all, so can fully understand the "can't wait until they move out" mentality. I think there may have been a slight hint of flippancy there though - parrot needed perhaps? wink

I get the sentiment OP, just be thankful you don't have a stepchild. Whilst my children have their fair share of moments, and they really do, at least they're not self-centred, self-serving, manipulative and deceitful with a never ending sense of entitlement.

Never thought I would say such things about a child.

Also, being a step "parent" is futile.

So speaks a bloke that either doesn't have kids, or lets their Mother do all the work!

I love my kids, they make me laugh with their silly jokes and odd questions, they're only young, but Dad is already brought a can of beer and a glass when I sit down in the evening. As someone else said enjoy it, it won't last long. I love the hugs they give me, the way they actually care if I'm knackered or have hurt myself doing something daft with some machinery.

Now the wife, that's a different matter, I really can't wait until she's had her bath and gone to bed so I can watch some crap TV in peace and have a beer or several.

As a father to two girls aged 6 and 3, I can sympathise with the OP!

They are funny though!
