I wasn't planning on posting along these lines since I took this thread in the light spirit in which it was obviously intended.

But I agree, it comes down to the ability to say no. I used to think it was mastery of your own destiny, but that arises from the ability to say no to stuff you don't want to do, and yes to that which you do (independence of mind and action). You rarely own that early in life.

ah my thread has arrived. I'm 38 tomorrow and I have ALL of the things mentioned thus far.

Ale by mail and luxury coffee beans subscriptions
single malts collection (plus hip flasks)
box of watches (only one watch worth more than £100 though)
blazers (inc tweeds) and pocket squares
many chinos
good quality leather shoes
cardigans
pension fund i've been paying into since finishing uni
nose/ear hair trimmers a go go
i owned a (new) E-class at 27, TVR at 32 and a Jag at 35!
electric hedge trimmer (did much research into stats before buying)
ultrasonic water bath cleaner for you know, trinkets and things around the house...
full car valeting equipment set and associated products
i've had a shredder for about 15 years
GQ subscription
folders of all the small claims court cases i've brought...
general grumpiness with modern life and other people

A corkscrew.
Condoms.

Was your teacher a drunken fecal incontinent with HIV??

I wouldn't go say, camping, without toilet paper or out on a date without condoms but I wouldn't generally take them everywhere with me.
