The turn down collar is I admit the more favoured way with a black tie now, but is another sloppy american import. Whilst I appreciate the wing collar is supposedly now the preserve of white tie, it is still in my eye not incorrect to wear a black tie with a wing collar, new money American style or old money English style. I think the choice should come down to the individual.
But how does one disguise the elastic on one's pre-tied bow tie when worn with a wing collar?

PS Your writing style and spelling has changed suddenly! wink
You are a very presumptuous little chap aren't you. Now run along to mummy, she is waiting to tuck you up in bed you little peasant.

I can't believe you are arguing over a wing collar when red trousers were on the list!

I'm not arguing. I'm merely telling Dand E Lion to pipe down a bit and sit with the dunces hat on at the back of the class. Here is a man with no cars in his profile, no car confirmed for Sunday service, no occupation listed and no mention of where he lives and he has the audacity to question my choices and lifestyle.

What a strange yet compelling thread, for the record I would only wear mustard or red trousers for a bet....

I hit the big Four Ohhh this year, so just to add to the stupidity...

Golf clubs - No point a decent golf course with windmills and helter skelters will lend you a golf stick.
Dinner suit - Got a birthday suit? Also own a black suit for weddings, funerals will that do?
Black tie for funerals - Needs a wash I think
Drain rods - Yep one of lifes essentials.
Ear and nose hair remover - No, I am in denial
Decent shoes - Some were, I think the the cat has hidden them.
Ability to cook well - Damn straight!
'Man drawer' - Do you keep men in this?
Tweed jacket - Just no!
A good mechanical watch (Rolex Sub) to pass to son - Nope
Several pairs of handmade shoes - I prefer hiking boots made by robots preferably.
A DE razor, shaving soap and badger brush - Beard says no!
Shotgun - Want but cannot justify.

But mostly

Perhaps he is from Corby and not wanting to advertise! Although I still think an empty profile is less of a crime than red trousers. But everyone is different and I can't even afford clothes so can't really talk! Hoping Father Christmas will deliver some new ones.

Quite! You are entitled to your opinion on the red trousers Neil. I think you may be telling porkies about not being able to afford clothes though my friend. You don't happen to live in hole in the ground with a tarpaulin over the top and eat cold gravel do you. biggrinbiggrinbiggringetmecoat

Apparently he did.

I think he definitely would if he had to wade through some of the petty sniping on here to get to the good bits...

Ok, busted. I have more important things to spend money on at the moment and clothes are very low down the list. I feel like I live in a hole as surrounded by mud and don't get out much. Tarps go over the top of me regularly and only the dog tries to eat gravel. So your hypothesis is correct clap just the characters have been changed to protect the innocent.

Chin up old boy, it will all come good in the end, I see from your profile you do have better things to spend your money on. Hope you get it done with your sanity still intact.

Sanity and sense of humour will remain intact. That is back to the sense of contentment. The problem is the speed of progress that niggles. In my mind I have already finished the first building and half way through getting the second done.Just the physical can't keep up with the mental.

I think France me be a little to far. We are stonemasons though if it is a stone farmhouse you are restoring. If there is one piece of advice I can give you, it's take your time and do it right, if not it WILL come back and bite you in the bum. Do not be tempted to cut corners with building.

It is stone and stonemasons have been in for any construction. My conscience won't allow me to cut corners. False economy anyway.

A collection of useful looking wood
somehow having old girlfriends telephone numbers from when you were teenagers (and maybe the odd teenager love letter..)

But for this thread:

-trust fund. If you are not enjoying you own by now, you should at least establish one for a child
-A small, even bijou second property in the Cotswolds, where you keep your landrover
-shares in a microbrewery (which is run by a hipster)
-A mixed share portfolio, but to include a green industry and Aston Martin
