Sorry if I have come across as a tt. Looking back maybe I did over react. I think I took the disguising of the elastic on the bow tie comment as a dig at me suggesting that I would only wear a pre tied bow tie, sorry if I have caused offence to anyone in particular Dand E Lion, things can build up and I have a few things on my plate at the moment, and I think I misjudged the nature of the replies, that does not excuse my insolent replies.
Good one thumbup No offence taken here, I'm sure we've all misjudged posts at some time or other, and then regretted responding (or been grateful we haven't!)

Very gracious of you Dand E Lion. I can be somewhat cantankerous sometimes and just need a little slap to get me back in line. biggrin

A never ending supply of white Nuits Saint Georges
That's quite a minority interest! Why a white Cote de Nuits?
Had one for lunch yesterday, courtesy of a neighbour - quite a delight, as I didn't even know they made a white with pinot blanc. Was trying to track down a case as I was writing biggrin
There are a few, including a Morey St Denis from Dujac made with chardonnay and a Morey from Ponsot made from aligote (that you would never know was not chardonnay without looking at the label).

There's a limit of 15% on pinot blanc/gris, so your wine would have been mostly chardonnay.

My wood shed isn't something I should perhaps own, it is indispensable, filled with loads of lovely 50 cm oak logs. I haven't found anything nasty lurking in it as yet though. Have we mentioned the growing medicine cupboard contents? No constipation pills for me though.......

48. Don't take anything other than the occasional Nurofen - less than once a month.

Strictly speaking I think you're correct, but I'd suggest it's 50+. I don't think I considered my middle age to start 'till I was well into my 40s. Something changed with my attitudes towards the end of my forties where I was a lot more content in myself.
Apparently, it works like this:

When you are young you want to be a premiership footballer, astronaut, rock star etc. Anything is possible, life is your oyster etc.

In your 40s you start to realise that many of those options are now, sadly, closed. Other pressures start to take control (like figuring out how on earth you are going to pay all those bills, questioning whether 'this is it' etc)

Then in your 50s you start accepting your lot and get happier again, until you hit 74, where ill health starts to be a bummer.

All a bit depressing really!

Apparently.

Neighbour is a wine merchant, and he bought it at auction out of curiosity, but it was definitely 100% pinot blanc. Have sent him searching for more thumbup

I bought a 997 Boxster S in June this year and sold my Golf GTi.

I'm 61 and my youngest sister accused me of having a mid life crisis. Given that I have rallied and raced since I was 17, I remarked it was part of my 'whole of life crisis', nothings changed. Thought I would get one whilst I could still get in and out of one. Wifey loves it and reckons its access is better than the Golf and the Elise we used to own.

Goes like a rocket and such a hoot. Took it on hols to France in the summer (car, not just wife) and it was brilliant, nice not to have an econobox. Well worth the £15k buying price. (not including a fair few $$$ getting it perfect)

On the subject of wine, just had a delivery. One case of Chateau Gloria 2009 and one of Lacoste Borie 2010. Do others like the second wines as much as I? The Borie is just delicious I find and far cheaper. Anyway, I don't think my taste buds can now tell the difference between a 88 or a 94 point notation by Parker. On whites, we tend to drink either Quincy or Rully. A very difficult thing, wine. Some swear by St. Julien, others Margaux, others Cru Bourgeois. But you'll not find Blue Nun here......

Out of curiosity what price have you had to pay for the Borie 2010?

Over here it is about £280/case of 12.

I know there is a bit of a difference caused by that 30 miles of water, but I wonder what you would pay in rural France for good wine?

Oh, yes yes yes. All started during a fateful trip to Le Mans ( lowdrag I know your connection to the place) in 1996 with my father and the rest is history. The first one was Duhart Milon and the rest is history.... Have a couple of hundred bottles of various 2nd wines or similar tempting me at this very moment,

I have quite a few of the accoutrements of a middle aged man, but ironically picked them up during my cash rich years as a single and much younger man - classic fountain pen, automatic watch, a few nice wines, a couple of classic bespoke suits etc. I even had my mid life crisis Boxster in my late 20's. Now I'm in my mid 40's I have a school fees and a wife who's intravenously linked to on-line shopping I have not a penny left to spend on anything remotely related to massaging my mid life needs. To wit, an SMAX and no chalet in Gstaad.
