I've had my barbour for years and years, had it repaired through thorn damage etc many times.

I've also put it through the washing machine on 'handwash' then bought a couple of cans of wax, warmed it up and re-waxed with a cloth, getting right into the corners.

Never had a problem. I guess I re-wax every 3 or 4 years as it's out in all weathers....

Probably should go no where near a washing machine but mine has survived all but Armageddon....

I've had my oldest jacket (probably 20 years old now) back to the factory once about 10 years ago and it came back like new. Worth every penny (can't remember how much, sorry).

Factory shop is nearby and is always busy , I've had some real bargains over the years .

Went in the other week and it's not as cheap as it used to be .

I'm afraid the quality of the (traditional)jackets has dropped as well.

Mine is ancient - 1992 - and I fear the cost of repairing tears and stuff will be high. It's been back to Barbour a few times but vet the years.

It's had a partial new lining fitted you can tell because the older higher lining is stained brown after an incident with a peat filled stream.

To freshen up why not try sone ant-bacterial spray. NOT Flash with bleach or anything like that. Dettol spray in the clear trigger bottle doesn't have an odour. Milton in a similar container smells rather nice and is ant bacterial. It might kill enzymes causing the pong.

Do this at your own risk. I've not tried it with mine as I quite like the smell. (The smell of old money in a PH cliché way :-). ) however I do use it to get mildew off the inside of my Convertible's hood and it's not damaged that.
