Even worse are the people who feel that the only way to finish a sentence is with a row of full stops.....
Forum people who set themselves up as grammar snobs but don't understand the word ellipsis...

hehe
Is that aimed at me? Are you serious?

Just in case it is, I do know the word ellipsis, I know what it means and I understand how it should be used. My post was aimed at the people who misuse it (which is most of the posters who finish their sentences with ellipses or a row of full stops (an ellipsis only has three full stops, any more than that then it becomes something else)).

Why did you say that I had set myself up as a grammar nazi?

You sound like a tt to me smile

Good these emoticons aren't they, means I can say what I want and it doesn't matter as long as I put a smiley after it.

In a shop the other day, and in a hurry. There was a woman behind the counter and a women who had just bought an item and they were sttering on to each other about the latest gossip. I stood there for a good 5min, item in one hand, £10 note in the other it being quite clear that I wanted to buy my item then be on my way. Neither the women behind the counter or the other customer though could bear to break the strem of mutual drivel they were locked into. I was annoyed by the fact the woman serving refused to break off the 'conversation' to serve me, and that the other women couldn't give a crap that she was holding me up whilst she sttered on at the girl behind the till. Just plain rude.

I can totally validate that emotion. You seem a very polite person, I've been known to break into such conversations with an "excuse me, I'm in a bit of a hurry" and whether they believe me or not, I still get served.

This practice has been elevated to an art form by the French, as has the use of the telephone to indulge in a long and drawn out personal conversation whilst pointedly ignoring you.

British airport toilet doors that open inwards, but don't have enough room in the cubicle for a person and a flight bag to leave enough room for the door to shut.

Interestingly, most foreign airports have toilet doors that open outwards - which makes so much more sense.

I'd rather have a tight fit in a cubicle than a door opened in my face!

Well ok then, why did you say that I had set myself up as a grammar snob? I don't remember ever commenting on anyone else's grammar.

Winkers annoy me.

False accusers annoy me.
