Things that annoy you beyond reason...(Vol 4)
Discussion
Tennis.
Thankfully it's over for another year, or at least the fortnight where everyone suddenly becomes an expert in this utterly boring sport, is now finished. Quite why the players decide to fist pump up to imaginary friends and family in the gallery area, every time they win a fking point, is beyond me.
And don't start on the bellends who queue for hours on end to go and watch it.

People who dawdle up to the traffic lights in front of you when you just know they will change to red at any second.
Always good driving practice. Why approach at speed if you know they are going to change to red? Duh!The DoT needs to decide - lights or roundabouts - but not both.
Speaking of tennis, or to give it its correct description, fking tennis, the BBC Breakfast program today wking for 20 minutes in every 30 over the Murray win with the 'amazing' pictures of the aftermath and the shots of the people in his previous home town (I confidently expect he lives somewhere else now) rejoicing over his win.

Whilst the speed involved in this crash certainly was excessive, please explain how, if you are approaching a set of traffic lights at anywhere resembling 'normal' traffic speeds, "putting your foot down" would serve to make the experience safer for all concerned?
Seriously.
When I was taught to drive (by a succesful amateur racing driver) she frequently emphasised the fact that if a traffic light is set at red, the ONLY possible change to this scenario is that the amber light will illuminate and at that point, unless it is demonstrably UNSAFE to stop, you fking-well stop. A simple rule, which no sensible person would argue against. Jeez!

Just remember this statement if you ever find yourself queuing for something that you want to attend. Just say in your head "someone somewhere thinks I am a bellend for queuing for this". yellowjack said:

Waste their time trying to pick an argument in a light hearted thread.
Completely change the original point just so they can argue about it.
What an utter bellend you are.

It's more the getting in a queue at 5am or camping overnight that just annoys me. Applies not only to fking tennis but also buying the latest iPhone, both scenarios I find utterly bewildering and annoy me beyond reason.

Said the man who thinks "putting one's foot down" on approach to a light that's highly likely to go to Amber and then Red at any moment is a good idea. It's not. So don't. And if you on doing it, I hope the only person you meet crossing your path is equally as daft as you and deserves to be wearing your car in their lap. Please God, don't let it be a car load of innocent kids or owt.

Those people who don't realise that many red lights won't change until they've triggered the sensor under the road next to the stop line, so approaching slowly simply delays the light changing
Erm?Point of order! Those sensors are seldom placed right at the stop line. Driving that last little bit even a little more slowly often has the highly desirable effect of allowing the lights some time to change, thereby permitting one to maintain even a smidgin of momentum. Always better (from an efficiency and mechanical sympathy point of view than continually braking to a stop and then having to accelerate two tons of metal away from a standing start again).
What irks me is if you are 'leptonning it' own the outside lane of a dual carriageway / motorway and there are no cars behind you, why does the 'Driving Miss Daisy' driver in the inside lane think that's the best time to pull out in to your lane to overtake a car a fair way in front of them instead of waiting for you to breeze past which still gives them ooodle's of time to pull out and overtake the car in front of them?
Also, why do some people walk up to a pedestrian crossing and without even looking push the button and wait to cross? What's wrong with looking first, judging what traffic is around and seeing if you can cross / wait those few seconds for the sole car to go past before walking unaided across the road?

This, every time I have a day or weekend off. Especially when there are outdoor jobs I desperately need to get done. The weekend just gone was effectively a waste of time due to the weather!
Change the day off at the last minute, the weather might miss you changed and be slow to react.hurstg01 said:

I normally look first, but recently I've had a spate of bds accelerating at me while crossing in what would have been a reasonable gap if they hadn't speeded up 227bhp said:

A hundred miles! That system is not working.
What, the SI system of International Units where "m" is the defined abbreviation for metres? Or your system of being trying to be a smart arse? Because I'd agree there.
(Edit: Yes, granted, British road signs still use 'm' to denote miles but usually 'mi' is used to avoid confusion with SI units and it was fairly clear from context that he meant metres)
