Things that annoy you beyond reason...(Vol 4)
Discussion
F1 drivers or horse racing jockeys being nominated and/or winning Sports Personality awards.
I mean, what do they actually do? A large part of the success is built upon the skill of others or, particularly for jockeys, how good the horse is. It's not exactly a level playing field. At least golfers all have the same style of club.
Sorry, just annoys me. Perhaps I am blinded my my absolute hatred for F1 and horse racing anyway. They annoy me beyond reason as well, I tried to get Sky to remove the F1 channel so I didn't have to "pay" for it.

Horse racing I completely agree with, but F1 drivers are bloody skilled and in no way worse than other racing drivers in terms of the best rising to the top vs the best car rising to the top.I mean, what do they actually do? They are indeed talented but I guess the point against F1 drivers is that wins are very much down to the car - stick Hamilton in a Manor and it's unlikely he'd ever see a point let alone a podium, win or championship.
He'd get far further up the field than either of the current Manor drivers though. Frank Williams made the mistake of thinking that drivers were just interchangeable monkeys with no more worth than a tyre. He was wrong. A decent driver can drive a poor car to better results than a mediocre one. Senna was the prime example of this early in his career. As was Schumacher to some extent. It's what separates a good driver from a great driver.
Anyway, this is off topic for this thread - I get that it annoys you beyond reason, even if I don't agree with your rationale.

Anyway, back O/T and I'm not sure whether this annoys or amuses me or both: Sky commentators lauding England's bowling attack saying its one of the best in the world with Broad/Anderson the best opening partneship in world cricket during the Sri Lanka series then within five minutes of the Pakistan series saying that with Anderson missing it's one dimensional.

It's 'Personality' awards - so not dependent on being the best/first/fastest or even actually competent.Mind you, that opt out clause annoys me beyond reason...especially when Mrs. Tindall won it and then demonstrated all the charisma of a lawn rake.

Stuff can't "just work" anymore because of the obsession with 'economic growth'.
If you bought st, and it worked, and not just worked but worked fine and continued to work for many many years, then you wouldn't be forced to go out and buy more st to replace it.
In my last barrack room I had a fridge. On the back of the fridge was a plate that proudly announced that it had been "Made in Scotland". That fridge was over forty years old, and had been everything from a family's kitchen fridge to a beer fridge, a bait fridge in a mate's garage, to my fridge because the wkers who I shared a kitchen with couldn't keep from eating my food at the weekends. I'd had to clean it thoroughly, including behind the door seals, etc, but it worked just as well as any modern larder fridge. It just outlasted them is all.
Society and the economy have joined forces to convince us that the march of technological advancement is so fast that there's no point in "making st that lasts" because in approximately 17 minutes and 45 seconds that iPad XR3i, that you've not even paid for yet, will be obsolete, updates will stop, and you'll be needing it's all singing, all dancing replacement the iPad GTi now, Sir.
Call me a Luddite if you wish, but I'm just fine with my Nokia C1. It has no "operating system", and requires no updates or patches. Same with still owning a CRT television, riding a 20 year old bicycle, and I've only owned 6 cars in the 25 years I've been driving. I'd rather spend my money on enjoying experiences, rather than on an endless cycle of needlessly replacing "st I already own".

You technologists! What's wrong with DOS3.0? If you bought st, and it worked, and not just worked but worked fine and continued to work for many many years, then you wouldn't be forced to go out and buy more st to replace it.

That works the other way as well. Being fed up with non stick pans wearing out their non stick coating I have started purchasing cast iron pans and casserole dishes that will never wear out. If you bought st, and it worked, and not just worked but worked fine and continued to work for many many years, then you wouldn't be forced to go out and buy more st to replace it.

And don't start on the bellends who queue for hours on end to go and watch it.
Just remember this statement if you ever find yourself queuing for something that you want to attend. Just say in your head "someone somewhere thinks I am a bellend for queuing for this". It's more the getting in a queue at 5am or camping overnight that just annoys me. Applies not only to fking tennis but also buying the latest iPhone, both scenarios I find utterly bewildering and annoy me beyond reason.

They are personalities, not a contest on if they have one. Personality is just BBC speak for famous/celebrity
