Lollipop ladies who man designated crossings and usher adults across when they have no children with them. Surely it's better to place them somewhere with no crossing?

This annoys me as well. Completely pointless.
Completely pointless in much the same way as a significant (and dangerous) minority of drivers find it pointless to stop at a crossing to allow folks to cross the road of a morning (or evening)?

They might not cost a lot, but 'school crossing patrol officers' do not work for free. Therefore they only tend to operate where there is a) an identified need to ensure the safety of crossing users, and b) there is someone willing to undertake the role. Lots of them now have a camera built into the 'lollipop' pole, or in the face of the 'Stop' sign on it, with which to record morons who, despite there being persons in the carriageway, still refuse to stop.

Seriously? I cannot believe that there's anyone who thinks that safeguarding young kids and their parents while crossing busy roads to and from school is "pointless". Take away all of the school crossing patrols and all that will happen is that parents, understandably protective of their offspring, will end up driving them to and from school. Bare in mind that those who walk either do so in the company of a parent who has time to walk with them, or are the offspring of non-drivers. But if even 50% of those walking stopped, then the resultant traffic and parking issues around schools would increase. That would cause delays, and also reduce safety for anyone still left with the ability to put one foot in front of the other repeatedly.

So would you rather be delayed for a few seconds every third or fourth time you pass a school crossing, or be forced to wait for oncoming traffic and crawl past schools because of rampant inconsiderate parking on surrounding streets? Perhaps the crossing patrol person isn't so "pointless" after all?

The fact that 10 million people tune in to watch a witch and a baker criticise the thickness of icing in that yearly pile of dogsh!t known as The Great British Bake Off!

We have the technology to film and broadcast amazing things, intelligent programmes which are thought provoking and inflame the imagination. Instead the preference is a bunch of divs looking round in anticipation that their gingerbread men may not be as good as someone else's.

Is Mary Berry even human? She reminds me of that creature from X-Files, remember? The one who wakes up every 30 years to eat people's livers. Only she wakes up every 12 months to eat people's cakes, slag them off and then go back to her nest in the broom cupboard with Ed the Duck!
She also appears to have an anus where her mouth should be.

Or you could just remove the leaflet and discard it, like most people do. silly

Wind it in, sunshine. I'm not arguing against crossing patrols, I'm arguing against them being employed to push the button on a pedestrian crossing.

People who are rude. Especially when unnecessarily so, its a blatant lack of any respect for others. If you've got personal problems deal with them without involving innocent bystanders, its not their fault. Especially grating at work when you have to deal with it every day and you're supposed to be working towards a goal together not against.

Just had a quick browse of the BBC news website before I go to lunch.

Looked at the tech page. Top story - something about a 'pron' site being hacked (I didn't click the link as the subject matter could obviously be considered NSFW)

The thing is - emblazoned across the front of the article is a large image of the word "PRON" in neon lights.........and I work in an open plan office - great! mad

And those that, having turned them on in a slight mist, then don't seem to be able to turn them off for 3 months.

People who don't then turn their fog lights off ! When it is slightly misty I am always sat behind cars in the city centre who still have their fog lights on.

laugh Seriously?

Presumably the thought of simply removing and binning the pointless leaflet thus solving the issue has not yet occured to you?

I didn't mean to cause a fuss, this was my main gripe too, I hadn't factored in the zebra issue raised though.

Don't always get round to it, occasionally actually need to refer to them, district nurses tut if they're gone… there is method, if not a whole lot of it!

If no one is there at school kicking out time, every time anyone walking up to the crossing they bring the traffic to a stop. Put a lollypop person there and the send them across in groups.

I saw the photo of the zebra crossing associated with the post and wondered "where's the button?" is all...

Probably said before but people that think putting their hazard lights on means they are exempt from parking restrictions on double yellows.

This is especially annoying outside my local mini supermarket despite a free carpark located next to it. Usually committed by overweight tracksuit/onesie wearing slags.

IMO the worst ones for this are Supermarket home delivery vans.
