People whingeing about the government 'covering up' the Trident test problem

Why the fk should the fact that our strategic missile system may have issues be advertised freely to potential adversaries ?

When an IT manufacturer advertises their latest gizmo as being 'future proof' - you know it will be obsolete within six months :/

Having watched the committee meeting on it the main issue really was the reporting of it (or the lack of it) rather than the failure. Had it just been reported it would be a non-story. Similar for example to say an minor pilot error accidentally writing off a plane. Expensive yes but nothing else.

6 failures ever in ~160 test launches of which the first 5 were prior to 1989.

On the other hand the actual *launch* worked perfectly so its not that big a deal and something that concerns the Americans more than us.

s who use a blue badge when the person requiring that concession is at home having a cup of tea.

Cut the badge up and make the abuser carry the needy person in a sedan chair.

Yes I know that needs two servants but I am annoyed beyond reason and not rational.

Such spiked blood pressure caused by a tt in a 4x4 in Chingford. Yes....you know who you are.

In today's instance the 4 or 5 drivers prevented from going anywhere were having a frank exchange of views with the driver, who simply sat there pointing to the badge on his dash.

They are a really really important concession rightly made available to those that need them. The abuse is as irritating as people abusing disabled parking spaces.

Confession: I did use the disabled loo in McDonalds the other day when caught short and all traps were busy. getmecoat

Getting in there before the lynch mob say it : you do realise that disabilities are not necessarily physical, yes? The fact that he wasn't in a wheelchair nor pushing someone in a wheelchair does not mean that he was able-bodied and free from any form of disability.

If the report is incorrect, then there will be no sanction will there. I do not advocate direct action.

But that's not the point. Someone with a non-visible disability should not have to suffer abuse and accusations from uninformed mouth-breathers nor have to deal with endless hassle from the badge people because those same people have been hacking out abuse reports to them on their PCs. Unless you actually have proof that vehicle occupant(s) have no disabilities (which would be impossible unless you personally know them) then the best course of action would be to keep one's mouth shut.

I have personally been on the receiving end of abuse in this exact situation myself when my Old Dear was alive. She was wheelchair/scooter bound and I would take her shopping in my car. On a number of occasions I hadn't been able to get a disabled space and had to park in a normal space - no issue as I have a pair of working legs myself and could easily push her in the wheelchair, but then upon the return to the car someone has parked next to me so I've had to move the car, or it's since started raining that would mean we'd both get soaked, so I've left her in the foyer while I've moved the car into a now-vacant disabled spot near the entrance. Jogging back to the store entrance has attracted many unpleasant comments about my abuse of "my" badge, how I am scum and should be locked up, etc etc. Amazing how quickly they shut up and look the other way when I start wheeling out my Old Dear though, some of the better ones muttering an apology and "sorry, didn't realise" shortly after their tirade. rolleyes

I always note in these topics about disabled spaces that it's always the non-disabled people that are apoplectic with rage over the issue, yet those of us who are disabled or have disabled relatives just get on with it as we know not all is how it appears. Those of you that like to get yourselves worked up into a lather over this issue would do well to remember that.

Report....does not relate to what you spout about does it ?

I use one: for my 87 year old mother, so wind your neck in and jog on.

Of course it does. It people "would their neck in" and "jogged on" instead of filing BS reports based on incorrect conclusions they've dreamt in their thick heads then it wouldn't even be an issue.

Disagree, if it was very obvious I would.

My local (little) town, 2 spaces in the town next to the bank and the shops and a Hair Salon . Two "Lads" in a BMW. Between them about 10 bags of shopping. ZERO mobility problems, both fully fit, watched them arrive and depart. Please don't tell me it is raining when you piss on my back.

I was "challenged" recently outside the supermarket when I was getting out of my car, parking in a Disabled bay. I was happy to discuss the situation, I asked the person to wait whilst I picked up my elderly Mother who I had dropped off earlier so she could do her shopping. If I came back with her (I could see her waiting at the entrance) would they make a donation to the Poppy seller at the shop entrance. They did.

I am ALWAYS happy to discuss any challenge because round here the council have ZERO policing of the bays in such limited areas, it is a form of self protection by blue badge holders. Parking enforcement has been privatised and the "officers" are at high value sites making money in the larger towns.

Of course I realise that. I suppose my point is that a blue badge is not an excuse for stupidity or a lack of common sense.

If the driver were disabled and was not leaving the vehicle, simply dropping and waiting for an able bodied person to pop into a shop that is simple abuse of the system and laziness. That is only in respect of the circumstances occasioning my comments. I totally accept that there are situations where that is really an essential action.
