The longstanding Facebook craze when people are going on holiday that they feel the need to post a picture of their drink at the airport bar. Not even a photo of the person concerned, just their drink!

They haven't done anything original. Went up to a bar, handed over cash, received alcoholic beverage. So why do I need to see a photo of a pint of Carling everytime someone decides to go on holiday?

Are we supposed to care? Be interested? Are they trying to make us jealous?

I don't begrudge anyone a holiday, I quite like going on them too. But I don't feel the need to post every mundane action or movement associated to said holiday.
It will be 'On the loo in Benidorm' next. (if it hasn't happened already.)

Those who take the second newspaper from the pile. OK, if the top one is damaged, fine, but if it's not, Why?

Yes. Ditto the people who post as their status. "Feeling ill in the A&E department. Me head's hangin' off".

What pray tell, am I supposed to do about that?
Give them sympathy, express concern for their well-being, ask if there is anything to do to help?
They can't be that ill or injured if all they can think about is posting on Facebook. Luckily the last time I ended up in A&E was many years ago,and I was in agony. Had facebook been invented then, the last thing that would have been going through my mind would have been to update Facebook looking for sympathy.

I now have visions of a Theme Park style poster in A&E waiting rooms saying "You have to be this ill in order to post about it on Facebook". hehe

Train carriages. How hard would it be to mark out exactly where the doors open on the platforms, doesn't matter where I stand the doors open either to the left or right of me.

Two marks on the platform that's all I'm asking for!

I dunno, you are asking for foresight and organisation from people who get surprised by fallen leaves every autumn! hehe

In Germany, platforms are marked with precise door positions for various train types. Timetables have, for decades, carried additional information such as the length (number of cars) that each train will have too (something which is a very recent - and often last minute - piece fo advice for UK passengers)

I asked the MD of a UK train company why he couldn't deliver platforms marked for doors here. He said that they had actively considered it and, by way of preparation, had tried to get drivers to stop within a 5 metre zone. Apparently they struggled with such a tight margin and the plan was abandoned.

They manage it on the tube trains that have barriers and doors along the platform edge. I don't see the point, you're just going to get people huddling round the doors when they should be stepping back to let people off the train first.

In Germany, they can tell you which platform a train is going to use at what time and even where each carriage will be on that platform (and where the restaurant car will be in the train).
At King's Cross, they often can't tell you five minutes before.

Not perfect but better than the 'couldn't give a damn' staff on the wonderfully misnamed information desk.

What is different about the Jubilee line then, where they have to stop exactly lined up with the doors on the platform?

Dunno. More than double the weight per carriage? Being able to see the sky? Good old British 'couldn't be bothered'?

If you've seen what the Jubilee line platform is like at Canary Wharf at 5.30pm, you'll see why marking doors is NOT a good idea.

People queue up in single file behind the doors meaning only 50% of the platform space is utilised causing huge tailbacks on the escalators and ticket hall.
