Conversely people who use a space annoy me. smile

Space is considered one of the IFS so it affects scripts and have to perform all sorts of jiggery pokery to ensure that files with spaces aren't treated as multiple files etc.

This really only came to me last night - why do the names of so many diesel cars always include an "i"? It's not as if you can have a diesel engine that doesn't have fuel injection?

I *think* it's because anything with an "i" was seen as the faster/better version so the "i" was added to "spice up" the diesels.

Because sexy, innit.

The spread of diesels came hot on the heels of he universal move from carbs to fuel injection on petrol engines. These were regarded as 'sporty' and 'high performance', so I daresay manufacturers wanted to instil some of that into their new oil burners. Comfort car buyers with the knowledge that in spite of burning crude oil in their cars, they were still sexy like their petrol counterparts.

Probably.

That's also my guess.

Easier to write code that doesn't have to deal with gaps.

Code schmode.

Regular filenames: mp3s, Word and excel docs, etc.

The code for Windows is long since written; people don't need to use underscores anymore.

File names look worse with & in them than they do with _ .

Conversely, people who write code that doesn't deal with spaces in filenames correctly, whether through negligence or laziness. It's not that much of an effort and every OS I've used in the last 25 years has allowed spaces, so just get over it.

The seemingly inexorable march of the phrase 'rocking up' instead of 'arriving' on PH, and also the near universal, particularly from professional sportsmen, and even more particularly from those that partake in two wheeled activities professionally, use of the adjective 'super' instead of 'very'.
"We're super glad you rocked up"

I think I'll retire to the withdrawing room and replay some calming VHS tapes of William Rees Mogg's greatest speeches.

(But am otherwise in agreement)

Films that are too dark so you can barely make out the picture, I suspect it's meant to be arty and moody but to me it's just annoying.

The increasing number of people who seem intent on keeping right when walking towards you on the pavement, thus forcing you to run/walk with your back to traffic about a mm from the kerb.

We were staying in a self catering apartment and while i'm hunched over cleaning up after dropping the kids off at the pool, she's looking across from the open fridge asking if I want a beer. Noo, just nooooo!

I really notice that now after spending 6 months working in Iceland. Everywhere in Iceland takes card (and mostly contact less).

Even the waffle van parked up outside Hallgrímskirkja (the big church on the hill in Reykjavik) took card.
