Now we have also lost Geoffrey Hughes to cancer. I must have watched more of his work than I did of Carrie Fisher.
With only a day to go now I wonder if anyone else is making a dash for the exit!
He's been dead for well over 4 years hasn't he ?

Surely it's only natural that the media focuses on people that the public knows about. And the public knows about film/TV stars and people who make records.
True. Just becomes a self perpetuating model though.

By comparison, many people know Stephen Hawking, though can't explain his science.

It's just a shame that we don't celebrate our other heroes a little more, it can be done, and astronauts are pretty cool and easy to "sell" to the public...

(I'm not impartial on this one as I knew Piers, so a bit of a vent really)

I opened a thread on his passing - only got a few hits.

So even PHers are lured by showbiz celebs more than real life "neck on the line" explorers and scientists.

But that has been the case for decades.

Pretty much my view.

We lost Piers Sellers this week, an amazing British born scientist, astronaut and lovely person - who and has had a huge impact on the globally important topic of climate change - but a fraction of the coverage in the press... typical of our "celeb" focused society.
True enough, however, 98% plus of people wouldn't have had a clue who he was. And most of the rest would have thought he was the actor that played inspector cleuseu (however you spell it).
and remember nobody on PH actually believes in the myth of "climate change", it's merely a means to tax those of us who choose to buy large engined cars..frown

Will they save it until the morning so that it can be announced in The Times, or should Huffington Post break the news?
