Yep. The guards/conductors on Southern trains are moaning that the new generation of train will have their doors operated by the driver instead of them.
The management say this will allow the guards to spend better time with the customers and doesn't mean anyone will lose their job, whereas the union see it as a way of introducing driver only trains and is unsafe.
Usual stoneage arguments from the rail system.
Trains doors arent operated automatically in the UK? My my, you guys are a bit behind the times eh?The management say this will allow the guards to spend better time with the customers and doesn't mean anyone will lose their job, whereas the union see it as a way of introducing driver only trains and is unsafe.

It's only been a handful of years since the individual doors were customer operated. Slam doors were awesome and proper choo choo train stuff!
I think we still have those on some (rather old) carriages, but i cant remember us ever having doors which were opperated specifically by railway staff, always either by the driver from the cockpit, or individually by passenger.Impasse said:

It's only been a handful of years since the individual doors were customer operated. Slam doors were awesome and proper choo choo train stuff!I stopped a chap once at Gatwick from Dalling on to the next line. Deep asleep he woke suddenly and half asleep opened the door and half stepped out. He was rather shocked when I yanked him back in to the train. But I suspect, rather grateful.
Just popped over to the ticket office at Goodwood to collect my tickets for FOS. The brief snow shower has meant my shiny car is no longer shiny. Ho Hum.
I took the popular cross country B2141 back through South Harting on the way back. Blimey, that road hasn't enjoyed the winter. There are numerous significant chunks of the road surface missing along its length, including the failure of some of the repairs to the flood damage from a couple of years ago. Proper "swerve around the alloy wheel chomper" stuff. Might take the RRS next time.
