Forums are anchored in the recent past, grab the friends you've made and hang on to them in another media because this one is dying.
I dont know about that. I think the average age for Pistonheads is probably somewhere in the late 30s to 40s and looking at some of the abilities of posters, forums are fine for a good while yet. Given that there's usually a point of interest (motoring) it's not really a place I'd come to make friends as such, more discuss topics that are relevant for me. Put another way, there's no-one here I'd really want to have on Facebook for example.
This guy absolutely nailed the point of what I dont like about the forums

I was watching the forum wondering how such a simple thread had legs for four pages.
I enter to see it's just middle aged wkers acting all superior and clever.
Great stuff.

Agreed. There is a frustrating common theme among our resident thick and that is the inability to realise that their opinion is based on the understanding of someone who cannot even pass a gcse. Now that there is no grown up to put red crosses over everything they say, they believe that suddenly everything they say is correct.Who's had this happen to them? You are browsing a section of the forum in which you have some expertise, and a new thread appears "Which (whatever) should I buy?" and you open it, ready to provide yours words of wisdom. And in the post is says something along the lines of "I only have a very limited budget of (whatever)" and the budget is just enough to allow him in at the 'free gift in a Christmas cracker level'. So your expertise is is useless because you have never involved yourself in that subject at such a low level.
Yes, although that is a narrow example of a much broader thing of
"Advice on what car next please? What else can I get other than an A4 estate" and then a list a mile long of inflexible must-haves which conclude in only one car in existence that fits their bill.
Followed invariably by outrage when someone suggests something that misses one of their criteria.
"I said it MUST have a clip-on manufacturer branded dog cage. Sigh. Doesn't anyone read the OP any more?"

As has been mentioned earlier, the council thread.
It started out a bit light-hearted, with many of us acknowledging our inner councilness, but now it seems to be a forum for posting pictures of unattractive people in order to slag them off.
Come to think of it, that's very council, so maybe the thread has come full circle?

What car threads in general are completely pointless most of the time on here as they either know what they want and can't afford it or they post; i have 3 dogs and a child, i want a safe estate car to go to the beach in and occasionally dogging, it also must lap the 'ring in sub 9 minutes and get 30 miles to the gallon whilst doing so."Advice on what car next please? To be honest i don't understand the point of them unless you have a really odd requirement or are looking at something special and want real world ownership experience.
