Don't worry about the comments about IVF etc. Even with a single one you get the 'so was it planned?'

And God forbid you need a c section because then clearly you're opting out and not even trying even if it is a medical need.

I used to get upset/annoyed/irritated by the looks I get from people because my son is 'different'. You'll soon learn to filter out the negativity, now it's only the more extreme comments like 'shouldn't be allowed out in public' that get my back up!
Surely you say "look son, a disabled person - of course, they look normal but clearly lack the intelligence to be out in public alone but you still can't just laugh at them"

Never, ever tell one of them secretly the other is really adopted as she looked just like her and we wanted a spare.

I normally tell them they're actually triplets, but we left the ugly one in the car.

We have 2 year old twins plus a bonus 5 year old. I'm tired. So tired.

The first year or so is tough. Learn quickly to accept help from anyone. We are extremely lucky to have one set of very engaged grandparents that we would probably not have come through the last couple of years without. The other set of grandparents have come up with every excuse in the book to stay as far away as possible. Twins are hard work so once the coochie coo stage is over interest will fade and your true family and friends will become apparent.

Try and get them into a bedtime routine. Our two are hideous sleepers they won't sleep through and we co sleep do all the none idealistic things you aren't supposed to do in order to survive. Our 5 year old never had any of this so we have proven ourselves with the older one but it's so so easy with one. They do go down at 7 so usually we get an hour maybe 2 of an evening before the musical beds starts.

This is the Internet so in theory I should be telling you how easy it is following the right advice and blah blah but the best advice I can give is not to listen to too much advice. It will be very hard for you so do what you can to get through it. Try not to get stressed with your Mrs and vice versa. One or other of them will either be ill, crying, in need of a nappy change or all three at once. When they are a little older try and get a babysitter so you can go out as a couple this is one thing we really struggle with and have managed maybe 3 nights out in 2 years.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for us I think another year and enjoyment will hopefully take over from the utter exhaustion, frustration and relentless nature of the experience to date.

They are cute which you learn is a natural defence mechanism that prevents you throttling the little buggers!

Good luck!

I firmly believe that people tell you how wonderful parenthood is to make sure other people suffer.

I'm in the same same boat Fridaypassion, through our own fault getting ours to sleep has been a pain. At the start one would always wake the other up when going to bed, so we'd let them fall asleep on us while we had a cuppa and watched the news.
Now at 2 they go completely mental if we put them down and leave them, its great fun at the moment as most nights its 8:30-9pm before they're asleep. Only time they're gone by 7:30 is the weekends as they wont have a daytime sleep for us. Yet at daycar the pair are gone pretty much at 12 everyday.

We had similar sleep challenges and it really taking its toll on us. I bit the bullet over Christmas and did controlled crying with them. It was a sleepless few nights for me but on night 4 they slept through and have been much better since. They still wake and come into our bed but now it's only once or twice a week of one is poorly rather than every day.

Start banking favours from parents, in laws, family and close friends because they can be invaluable when you juat need an hour or two to run errands without having to spend 30 minutes getting kids into car.

MUSLINS- 3 quid a pack in ASDA, bulk buy these bad boys, and i mean when you think "surely thats enough" - double it. Same with vests and grows.

You will also go through an absurd amount of baby wipes, dont jiat buy one or two packs each timw stockpile these,

As above, depreciation on prams is unreal so buy used and wash the covers, you will cry when you try to flog your £1000+ pram system and only get 100 quid for it.

POONAMIS!- i had to cut the grow off my little one many a time because a tidal wave of poo had escaped the nappy, gone up his back and was touching the back of his head. Be prepared.

This thread is mostly negatives (and righty so) but on the plus side its the most amazing thing you will ever experience. Absolutely nothing comes close and that only increases as they turn into toddlers. Enjoy every minute of it.

DO NOT BUY THE +£1000 BUGGY FROM iCANDY ETC. EXPENSIVE WASTE OF MONEY. ALL YOU NEED IS THE MACLAREN WITH THE SEAT THAT FOLDS FLAT (albeit the twind version).

(yes I am shouting on purpose)

Seriously, don't be sucked in.
Elsewhere on Mumsnet, someone else is probably shouting "DON'T BUY A NEW 5-SERIES BMW. EXPENSIVE WASTE OF MONEY. ALL YOU NEED IS A USED KIA MAGENTIS".

Specific question to the parents on here with Twins, for night time sleeping did you use a cot that attaches to your own bed if so what did you use I'm finding it very difficult to find one that's suitable / large enough for twins.

I'm looking for somthing like this which will alow two babies to sleep comfortably together next to mum.

We had separate moses baskets at the bottom of the bed, not next to it, not sure I'd have wanted them that close to the bed TBH, but it's a case of each to their own, you don't know until you try it.

What they don't tell you about the Chicco Next 2 Me (and similar) is that
a) you need to detach it from the bed in order to drop the front down
b) it's pretty huge, so if you have a normal bed it will block off one side, making a difficult barrier especially if the wife has a caesarean
We were glad to have one, but it wasn't used as a co-sleeper at all, just a slightly larger, more stable moses basket.

I can't imagine one suitable for twins would be practical. I'd consider a conventional cot instead.

We had a cot in the room and fed in our spare room as the twin feeding pillow is fking massive and I'd have had to get out of bed if the wife wanted to use it during the night.

The twins have been in their own room, in a shared cot bed since 2 months.

Agree. While the iCandy is eyewateringly expensive it is much better than the Maclaren. A boggo Maclaren is great for singletons but the twin version is much more unwieldy than a stacker.

Get one of these it will save time . We have 1 at 3 and 2 at 18 months. I'll not overload this thread with advice. It's very tricky to pick up the best advice and find your own way. Routine even if it's a killer to start with it will pay off. White noise get the app for your phone and use as a near last resort. Worked for all 3 if they wouldn't sleep.
