A young lad asked me for some money outside a McDonalds one winters evening. I said no almost as a reaction, but he looked genuine and I decided to get him a cup of tea and some chips when inside. Bought them for him and when I came out he had gone. frown Hope he had somewhere warm to go to that night.

I saw an article about a coffee shop somewhere. There was a noticeboard in there. When you bought your drink, you could buy something for a homeless person at the same time. You were given a voucher for whatever you'd paid for and could write a little note on it and pin it to the noticeboard. Homeless people could stop by, take a voucher from the board and get the food to which it referred. A nice scheme.

I have bought homeless people food and drinks but I never give them money.

I left about £40 change at the vet after paying out to try and save my cat last year, id left a £1000 deposit and said to fix her but alas she couldn't befrown
Told the receptionist to pay it on the next elderly person that couldnt afford the pets bill, next time i went in there was a note on one of my other cats file thanking me for helping out an old tabby called jess that been in for a checkup, the lady who bought her in had taken her in as a stray but couldnt really afford to keep her, glad to help.

My local chippy has a scheme where you can donate the cost of a fish and chip meal ,this in association with the Salvation Army then provides a hot meal for the local homeless .
It is something a tend to do as I used to buy two meals but since my father passed away the second one is donated as it still costs me the same .

Apparently film from 2000.
7.1 out of 10 on IMDB.

Wonder if it started the whole American pay it forward thing?

I once saw a bloke wearing brand new French Connection trainers posing as a tramp and asking for help, the absolute bluffer
Was he sporting a nice tan and an 'I've Been To Florida' t-shirt?

I credit Heinlein with the concept "pay it forward". If he didn't start it, he certainly promoted it throughout his life.

I bought a mcdonalds burger and gave it to a tramp slightly down the road who I had seen on way in, he turned it down, money only!

Basically on the brown aren't they, they dont want to eat as they will be sick, they want money for a fix - simples
It depends. Sometimes the food you're offering isnt needed, it doesnt have to be - just because you might think so

Someone on this very forum sent me a watch strap free of charge. I'd asked where I could source one, it was for an old Snoopy watch so purely sentimental, and he kindly offered to send me a strap and wouldn't take any money for it.

It was Children in Need week so I made a donation by way of payment.

This weekend one of my cats was run over (he's in the vets right now so I'll not going into the details) but some very kind woman managed to find me by randomly knocking on local doors. She had already taken a pet carrier to the scene and let me borrow it despite me being a total stranger, the carrier is still at the vets but I've been around with flower and chocolates to say thanks and she was genuinely shocked. She has said I can keep the carrier as long as I need and even offered a cage if I wanted it after I explained the cat was going to need home treating for 6 weeks in a cage.

She has never met me, yet she was very happy to offer me things. It's not the value of them that matters, it's the personal thought.

Starbucks enticing you to buy a £2.00 coffee the homeless that costs 10p to make gets my goat. If they said put one by for a quid I'd happier. Starbucks are the real winner. your do this better off giving £2 directly.

Im a fker generally so I do try and keep the karmic scales in balance where I can by doing what I can to help out when the situation calls for it.

Probably doesnt count but Ive been building PCs and fixing them and offering advice for years now for free. When I could Ive given away bits I dont need anymore or have a surplus of. Given away screens and TVs in the past as well as other fairly valuable components. I just look at it as its not doing anything for me, I dont have a pressing need for the funds and Im sure that someone along the chain will appreciate it.

I sold some headlights for a 1 series on fleabay, the ending price was pretty low and when the guy came to collect it I realised he was the dude who bought my old E30 a year or so back. I let him have the headlights gratis as he was using them to fix up a 1er he had bought.

A guy bought my 200SX a while back and drove all the way from the highlands, worked out at just under an 8 hour trip with 8 hours back. The car was totally sorted but I kept all of the original bits because Im a hoarder like that, he seemed like a good lad and his lady was nice too so I just gave him all the bits I had stored up as well, FOC. If it keeps the car on the road and what seems like a decent guy happy then its more use to him than me.

I keep change on my desk and its generally free to anyone who needs a few coins.

When I was a schoolkid we went on a trip to the Liverpool Philharmonic, I had pocket money for a souvenir and some food but being a mug I gave it all away to a couple of rough sleepers nearby.

Last night I gave a lass a lift home about 10 miles out of my way because it was late and I didnt fancy leaving her waiting for a bus or paying for a cab. Although I did have an ulterior motive for that one tongue out

Knew a chap who did the gardening for some old lady. Just the odd jobs like cutting the grass etc.

He did it for a few years. When she died she left him £160k.

To be fair, the OP can pay for anything... he just prints his own money, or cheques.

I was in a bookstore in Luxemboourg City at the beginning of the school year buying stupidly expensive schoolbooks for my youngest. A(nother) foreign(er) chap was in front of me digging around in the bottom of a shopping bag for €1.80 he was short to pay for a teaching book of some sort. I leant forward and gave €2 to the cashier to help this chap out. The guy took the €0.20 change, dumped that in his bag, and didn't even say thank you to me!
In my disbelief at the nerve of him I said something like, "Ungrateful bd!" (in English) and the bookshop cashier responded in English, laughing, "I thought that too!" The chap with the book didn't bat an eyelid.

I genuinely like to try and help people out, even if it's helping someone move house, hanging some lights or pictures, giving lifts in bad weather, etc., as you feel you've done a good deed, but with people like the one at the bookstore, they can fk off! wink

I'd have lobbed a book at him.

I received it forward once, when I was a young skateboarder of 14. My brother and me used to regularly ps off our neighbours skateboarding in the cul-de-sac where our parents live. I was skateboarding in the local town centre once, and fell, badly twisting my ankle. I was in a lot of pain and couldn't walk. One of the neighbours walked past as I was hobbling around with tears rolling down my face, and gave me a lift home. Fair play to him considering we pissed him off by skateboarding outside his house.
