Moved home in 2001 and lost my wedding ring during the move.

Stayed in that house until last year, when we moved again. Started packing the glassware from the drinks cabinet. Picked up an old German stein glass that hadn't been used for years, with the intention of chucking it. Tinkling noise when I picked it up.....

It was the wedding ring.

14 years, the entire time we lived in that house, in the same 'safe place' all along.


Told her I hadn't lost it all the years too....

I've done the same at least 3 times, but with my wallet. My wife's Ka didn't have central locking so being someone who lives in shorts all year round and often they didn't have pockets in, so I'd always have my hands full with food/drinks/keys/wallet combo. My wallet was always returned to me thankfully, often before I even realised I'd lost it! The advantage of having a donor card in the wallet with my mothers number on for n.o.k.

Somehow I managed to leave a 2ltr bottle of pop on the roof, drive off before realising we hadn't got it, dove back to the house to look for it and it was no where to be found. Never heard a crash/bang as it fell off the roof. And no idea where it went or when in the 3 or so minutes of the drive away and back!?

how on earth do you lose the wedding ring? Doesn't it just stay on your ring finger all the time? Or did you misplace you finger?

If I don't lose stuff I break it. I've managed to hang on to an expensive mobile for a couple of years, which is a record. Just learn to embrace the naff.

Back in 1981 went to a Shell station and bought a £5 Casio lcd/led? watch. Put it on my wrist got back on my Honda 50, pulled away, watch fell off my wrist and went under the back wheel. £5 want much but i was on £30 pw and also had to give my parents £10 pw for board and keep

You sound a bit like my close friend. We enjoy our nice watches, umbrellas, hats, scarfs etc (We're not wealthy in any respect but for these items we reckon the quality is paramount)

He's lost watches and sunglasses before, I've never lost any of mine.
Regarding Breitlings etc my dad only wears his if he's going out somewhere for an event or a nice meal any other outing he uses his daily.
Personally if I was going swimming or somewhere I knew I would have to take the watch off I'd probably be leaving it at home or in the hotel room.

Interesting thread. Is it absentmindedness? Are you always thinking about other things and never focusing on the now? Do you just not care enough about stuff? Are you clumsy, too, eg dropping stuff, spilling stuff?

I've tried to figure out why some people struggle to walk without tripping over their feet whilst others can do the most amazing things with their bodies eg olympic gymnasts.

I know someone who has broken his phone 5 times in a year. I know someone else who dishes out of a main dish onto his plate while holding the dish above his plate and you can slowly see the dish sinking into his food.

I HATE loosing anything, drives me mental if I do. So I've devised a system that virtually prevents this. Except, when My daugs b/f stuffed his car into a ditch, and I went to help out, the next morning I couldn't find my car key anywhere, so I'm down to 1 now. I'm amazed it hasn't turned up, as if I lost it outside, it has a £10 reward tag on it. And it's +£100 to get a new one from the dealer !!! Not as bad as the wife though, twice she forgot our daug when she was little whilst in the Super Market, and left the shop without her!!

My wife loses things especially sentimental things, drives my absolutely mad as I would expect; as I do, that something precious or sentimental should be looked after, and for someone who is permanently glued to her mobile; she misplaces it all of the bloody time, it always turns up but I am sick of hearing "where's my phone?" or "can you ring my phone as I can't find it?"

I can honestly say that I do not lose things, I know where everything is, things have places and if I am out I am always checking my pockets.

I don't know, but when I was a kid (about six, I would think) a friend asked my mother why my parents didn't wear wedding rings.

She replied that they'd both lost them and weren't all that bothered about getting new ones.


I had a teacher who left a pile of exercise books on the roof of his car and drove away. We worked it out pretty quickly when he handed them back with tyre marks and stuff on them.

Umbrellas are different, people steal them. I could understand them borrowing one without asking, but to not return it had 4 stolen from work

A friend of mine left a bag on the roof of their car and drove off, it had £4k of cash in it, they never did get it back.

I'm a sparky and anything I wear to work will get trashed. Consequently all jewellery is wearing-out only by habit. Even if I'm wearing it (the wedding ring) on the weekend I'll take it off to cook a meal if it's something involved as it just doesn't feel right to get it all gammy.

Ok fair enough, however to my mind I would place it somewhere safe, or in my pocket so I could put it straight back on again.

It just seems a bit careless to lose something as important as a wedding ring; it's almost as if the wearer didn't really care.

I lost mine when it was on my finger - it was too loose fitting and came off at some point without me noticing I suspect when I washed my hands/ dried with a paper towel. I've never lost a watch, however.

When I was a teenager I used to leave things behind with alarming regularity, nowadays I rarely lose anything as I've basically trained myself not to be careless, and always double-check seat pockets when getting off a plane for example.

I think it's something you can work to improve.

I'm going to have to be blunt here.

Was having sex with my wife. For all the weird and wonderful positions of the Kamasutra it's nice to get back to a good old vigorous session of missionary sex with your hands clutching your wife's cheeks. We were in a hotel were the mattress was Germanic car-seat firm rather than French suspension soft. My poor wife's bum started to bruise painfully where my wedding ring was so I took it off. I must of missed the bedside cabinet and dropped it down the back or side. In the morning and we were off on our travels before I noticed it was missing. I phoned the hotel who said they'd have a look. No sign.

I've lost three wedding rings, the first when just married didn't like the feel of it when I was sleeping. Took it off and put it on the bed side cabinet heard it roll off and the wife said find it in the morning. It had gone had bed up and the carpet up it had vanished. The second I had taken it off to work on the car didn't put it back on and a bd burglar took it along with everything else. The third while diving off Egypt got back in the boat and the ring had gone. The dive guy said they usually find around 3 rings on the sea bed a day. He had a box full of them and offered a free one to me but none fitted. It's to do with the warm air and then going into cold water they just fall off.

So now I don't wear a wedding ring it's not meant to be!!
