The Heatwave has been present for quite a while, it's just wafted up this way now, so it hasn't really come out of no where.

Heathrow just over 29C leading at 16:00, with Gravesend-Broadness just behind.

Live feed indicates Heathrow has peaked but could potentially increase again.

Currently holidaying on the French Med - another glorious day, around 26/27 c. Apparently back home in Guernsey it topped out at 29.1c though... smile
Hope its like that in a couple of weeks time smile
Always sunny in Guernsey smile Apparently it's going to be 33c there tomorrow, with a breakdown on Wednesday. Got friends staying in the North of France (Brittany) and they've got temperatures high 30s/low 40s!

If like to know this too. BBC weather app seems very inaccurate and Beeb ( met off) missed this mini heatwave
I've seen plenty of evidence that the BBC forecast this heat wave from before the weekend confused
Really? I'm a bit of a weather obsessive and seem to recall the bbc weather app being cloudy and high teens this time last week but I may jus be remembering the neg side.

None of the forecasts I saw got the degree of warmth until very late, but as said ages ago in this thread, the 3rd week of July was long predicted as the best bet for the real start of summer - and so it is.

Just had a text from friends on the campsite in France that we are heading to on Thursday - it was a mere 42 degrees yesterday afternoon.

I'd better pack a jumper just in case.

As long as it is good from the 14th of August that will do me, then it will be beer time don't forget smile

You've missed my point - it's not an incredible temperature, although slightly out of the ordinary. What is incredible is the speed it has built up. Normally for this kind of temperature you need lots of ducks in a row in terms of cloudless days, high pressure anchored in the correct location to get light southerly winds and we require these conditions in place for a while. This has arrived quickly.
Ahhh point taken although the temperature has been building up for at least 5 days.
Here in Winterfell (West Scotland) we had the wood burning stove on all day on Sunday, it was so grim, 12/13 degrees showing on my car at 1pm. Today it's to be 28 degrees, so for me it's pretty incredible.

I had to shut my windows last night, & it was still like something between Animal from the muppets and a jack-hammer on the wall.

After some research I think it is piling work for the Rampion windmill parade.

It would stop for a while, then come back even louder, still going at 3am.

Bloody hell, no wonder the whales beach themselves.

Looks like temps. have more or less peaked so no max. record (can't really call it till 6 or 7 tonight though).

BUT the BBC Met man reckons the highest min. might be in sight.

July record - 1948 23.3C St JP Lnd.
All year - Aug 1990 23.9C Btn.

Not looking forward to tonight - going to take the kids out of their loft rooms and let them sleep downstairs!

Brize Norton was 33.5C at 17.00 and still climbing........., actually I think it made 34C dead? Not sure if it's a rounded figure.

Edit. 34.0C @ 16.50.

We rarely get thunder here in the NW Highlands.. but fk me it's loud when we have it (due to the hills - twice as loud as down south). Dogs might have problems tonight. Power cuts almost inevitable.
