Lincolnshire just got whalloped with a mega storm. In the space of around ten minutes, we had gale style wind, massive hale stones and loads of rain. My drive is now partly under water.

Madness!

Spalding. It seemed to go between us and we caught the edge of it.

This is quite a good site for tracking the weather, it has a few different options like lightning, animation etc etc. It's pretty dam accurate

Same happened here in East Suffolk just down from Lowestoft. More like a tropical monsoon.

Yup was absolutely biblical in Southwold last night about 8pm. My downpipes were going like fire hydrants and the gutters were still overflowing. Lightning all around and out to see - pretty impressive. Thunder didn't quite live up to the lightning and rain though.

True. Over here in Halesworth it was spectacular light show and went very, very dark at one time.

That's the end of the heat - this week will see low pressure systems to the north, providing something of a north/south split. The north will see frequent rain, but nothing too 'organised' - much cooler.

The South should remain mostly dry, but not hot. Hovering around 20oC.

It does look almost cool for the outlook, but there will still be some heat close enough to get sucked up at the drop of a hat.

Indeed

UK is sitting on the cusp of the weather:

Small changes could easily mean a couple of weeks of hot weather - or a washout summer! As a smeone who lives south of the M4, I'm quite happy with the summer we've had biggrin

Remaining unsettled but not full on Atlantic for the next week or so. Further south you are, the better.

Good hopes for something to start around next weekend in terms of warmth and stable summer weather, but I'm making no promises.

Flying up to Bradford today - shocked to see heavy rain and 14oC forecast! That's a typical Christmas Day in Berkshire...

Prolonged rain for the South later today...

Interesting that there is cross-model agreement on high pressure and a warm spell starting next weekend, but very little optimism it will happen.

A deep area of low pressure will pass by Scotland mid week, but the South remains as it has - comfortably 20oC. The low pressure makes forecasting what happens later trickier!
