The 2016 summer and thunder thread
Discussion
We seem to have taken a shortcut straight to Autumn at the moment, rain and wind.
It shows how meaningless 'weather' records are though. The South had a very dry July, but on the 1st of Aug we got inundated!
Outlook for me looks pleasantly warm and dry no heatwave, nights getting cooler later on.
July 2016 was warmer than average but no record breaker, somewhere around 60th warmest in 360 years or so.
Interesting stat from xmetman site who was looking at number of extreme anomolies i.e. +10C over normal maximum - like the 33.5C recorded this July.
The decade with the most extreme heat days (since 1880) is 1941-1950 with 19 days - there's a surprise.
2001 to 2010 only has 8 extreme days, and the latest 2011- has 8 so far.

Here in the North West it's felt like Autumn for the past week/ 10 days....and that's after not really having a summer, bar the 1 hot day. Edited by Alex Langheck on Wednesday 3rd August 12:49
Autumn? Short cut to winter next week!
Pleasant weekend coming up, short lived high pressure in charge. High 20s possible in the South.
Next week it looks like a northerly will arrive direct from the Arctic. Cool days, cold nights - risk of frost for susceptible places. Cloudier towards the East.
On that note - I'm heading abroard mid week next week!

In the final count July 2016 was actually the 73rd warmest since 1659, 0.8C warmer than their arbitrary 1961-1990 average (which encompasses the coming ice age scare cooling nicely - remember that!).
Nice little ensemble long term model forecast graphic for London available here. London tends to be about the warmest spot, so temper back the temps.

Off to Guernsey next Sunday for 8 days, and ideas Puggit? I think it is looking reasonable, hopefully!
Take your sun cream and inflatables!Mr GrimNasty said:
What a difference a day makes, the outlook looks markedly different already!
Guernsey dry and slightly cool if anything.
London to experience a steady build up to a short 30C+ burst, with an equally quick decline.
And tomorrow everything will be different again I expect!
Yup - GFS 12z is a major upgrade again. Time will tell.Guernsey dry and slightly cool if anything.

Not particularly looking forward to the low 40s as currently forecast for our holiday in SW France!
